  • Patent number: 5551672
Abstract: Flow control apparatus for enhancing inclusion float out in a continuous caster tundish comprising a dam positioned downstream from an impact pad and an energy source positioned between the dam and the exit nozzle of the tundish. The dam receives an incoming flood of molten metal released from the impact pad and redirects the flood of molten metal into multiple sub-flow currents which carry entrained inclusions toward a slag cover on the surface of the molten metal bath to enhance inclusion float out. The energy source provides means to restore kinetic energy to the sub-flow currents and increase the number of passes below the slag cover, thereby further enhancing inclusion float out.

  • Patent number: 5517546
Abstract: A method of, and a device for positioning an X-ray cassette (5 or 10) in relation to a source (1) of X-rays that emits radiation in a specific preferred direction (A). Another beam of radiation is emitted parallel to that direction at a specific distance (d) therefrom. The other beam is intercepted by a positioning device (20) secured to the cassette. • Patent number: 5485473
Abstract: The present invention provides for improved testing of an integrated circuit. In order to measure a test signal S from the integrated circuit 1 a multi-pattern is placed in a shift register. The multi-pattern is generated by overlaying at least two test patterns Ax and Bx. Therefore the signal S changes its state in response to only a small amount of shift operations.

  • Patent number: 5364673
Abstract: The plate-shaped component (1) has a sealing (2) surrounding its side faces (2a) and is easily exchangeable. The surrounding sealing (2) is an integral part of component (1) and has varying thicknesses along its length. This allows compensating for dimensional variations of the plate-shaped component (1) by suitable production processes, such as casting or spraying, and keeping the fixed external dimensions of the component (1) surrounded by sealing (2). An overhanging area (3), positioned on component (1) and surrounded by sealing material, serves as a stop and permits component (1) to be flush-mounted in a housing (7) from the inside. A wedge-shaped elevation (4) of sealing material, which acts as a pinch or fold and is positioned in the overhanging area (3), improves the flush mounting still further. For outdoor installation, the plate-shaped component (1) may be additionally provided with heating as well as temperature measuring means (5, 8).

  • Patent number: 5319948
Abstract: In a low temperature generation process, compressed gas (3) at high pressure enters from an inlet nozzle (1) and alternately expands into one of two resonator tubes (A,B) of an expansion engine. The expanding gas excites standing acoustic waves (4) in the resonator tubes (A,B). The acoustic energy of the waves (4) is converted into electrical energy by acoustic/electric power converters and is led away outside the "cold area" of the tubes. The expansion engine contains one or more resonator tubes with a common inlet nozzle (1). Each resonator tube has an acoustic/electric power converter (5) and an exhaust port (6). Together with a compressor, a heat exchanger and a heat sink, the expansion engine provides a very effective cooling system which may be used for the cooling of small electronic devices like chips or modules.

  • Patent number: 5199029
Abstract: A circuit arrangement for establishing conference connections comprising conference units is described, which units are linked to form a loop (L). In this loop (L) sum codewords consisting of sample values of the signals of all participants in a conference are transmitted from one conference unit to the next. In each conference unit a sum codeword is updated so that the sample value of a conference signal from the previous loop travel is replaced by the current sample value. In order to enable the monotoring of a travel of sum codewords through the loop with a circuit arrangement of this type and in order to have the sum codewords pass through the loop in a predetermined brief period of time without a necessity for a synchronization of individual processing modules of the conference units, the function of one or more conference units is taken over by a programmed processor (P1 to P4). The exchange of data between the conferees and the processors is controlled by means of an interface circuit (PO).
