  • Patent number: 9986414
Abstract: Ways for performing servicing a service request from a communications device that is normally associated with a first domain are disclosed. An illustrative method includes dynamically assigning a CSCF (Call Session Control Function) associated with a second domain to receive service requests from the device in an IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) networking environment, receiving the requests by way of the dynamically assigned CSCF.

  • Patent number: 9526121
Abstract: Embodiments disclosed herein provide systems and methods that allow a mobile device to fully access unified communication services of a carrier. In a particular embodiment, a control system receives a call for a unified communications service and determines whether the mobile device is associated with the unified communication service. If the mobile device is not associated with the unified communication service, then the call is connected to a unified communication system to provide access to a first portion of the unified communication service. If the call is associated with the services, then the call is assigned a virtual number and connected to an intermediate communication system, which determines at least a second portion of the unified communication service associated with the virtual number. The call is then connected to the unified communication system to provide access to the first and second portions of the unified communication service.

  • Patent number: 9357436
Abstract: A radio access system receives packets from a local source of streaming media content via a local connection and from remote packet sources via a remote network. The radio access system communicates with a subscriber station via an air interface that includes an uplink and a downlink. A packet classifier in the radio access system maps packets having the subscriber station's IP address as destination address to the subscriber station's downlink. The subscriber station communicates with a content controller via the remote network to request selected streaming media content. The content controller instructs the radio access system to convey the selected streaming media content from the local source to the subscriber station. In response, the packet classifier maps the packets containing the selected streaming media content to a downlink (either the original downlink or a new one) for transmission to the subscriber station.

  • Patent number: 9215253
Abstract: A method and corresponding device and system to provide a real-time call announcement to a called device. According to the method, a called device begins receiving call announcement media without having first engaged in session setup signaling to set up a session through which to receive the call announcement media. In normal operation, the device would disregard such incoming media, since no session has been set up for receiving the media. As disclosed, however, the device will also receive at about the same time a call setup request that seeks setup of the underlying call, and the device will treat its receipt of that call setup request as a key to allow playout of the call announcement media even though no session has been set up for receipt of the call announcement media. The called device will then play out the call announcement media as an announcement for the call.

  • Patent number: 9118934
Abstract: A server is provided. The server comprises a processor, a memory, and an application stored in the memory that, when executed by the processor, receives a progressively uploaded media stream from a remote electronic device. The application also converts the progressively uploaded media stream from a first format to a second format and buffers the converted media stream. The application also transmits the buffered converted media stream to a bridge into a media local area network based on a mapping of the remote electronic device to the media local area network, wherein the mapping is stored in the memory.

  • Patent number: 9060022
Abstract: An embodiment of a method, system, and structure communicating messaging data in a header of a packet are provided. The data structure includes a data packet comprising a header and a payload, wherein part of the header includes first and second data portions, wherein the first data portion indicates a type of message encoded in the second data portion, and wherein the second data portion includes message data. An embodiment of a method includes encoding a communications message, which would otherwise be inclusive in a payload portion of a packet into a portion of a header of a packet, encoding an indication that indicates a type of messaging that said messaging is, and facilitating the communication of the packet to a destination.

  • Patent number: 9014096
Abstract: A wireless device may establish a data connection with a 2G or 3G wireless network, which the wireless device can then use to engage in packet data communications with other devices on packet data networks. The wireless device may then roam from one wireless network to the other wireless network, such by roaming from the 2G wireless network to the 3G wireless network or vice versa. The wireless device may then transfer its data connection between the networks, thereby allowing the wireless device to continue in any established data sessions with other devices.

  • Patent number: 8656449
Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer-readable media, for applying one or more policy attributes to an event are provided. The application of policy attributes to an event is initiated. Thereafter, policy attributes to be applied to an event are identified. Such policy attributes may be identified based on event attributes. The policy attributes are applied to an event so that a specific quality of service is achieved. Subsequently, an indication is provided to reconfigure a host source such that the policy attributes may be applied upon each event request.

  • Patent number: 8594077
Abstract: A method and system for establishing wireless IP connectivity, in which a wireless communication device (WCD) obtains a routable IP address during its registration with a radio access network, rather than first registering with the RAN and then subsequently requesting and acquiring packet-data connectivity. Preferably, when the WCD sends a radio access registration request that triggers a registration notification to a home location register (HLR), the HLR or an associated entity will assign an IP address for use by the WCD and will deliver the assigned IP address in a registration notification response message to the RAN. The RAN will then deliver the assigned IP address to the WCD over the air in a radio access registration response message. The WCD may then use the assigned IP address to engage in packet data communications, such as to set up a VoIP session with another IP node, for instance.

  • Patent number: 8442505
Abstract: Caller ID information directed to a user's mobile phone is delivered to the user's home television set for viewing. A determination is made as to whether the mobile phone is within a home zone associated with the user. The determining is performed at a network element within a mobile communications network that provides carrier service to the mobile phone. A presence indication is stored in a database indicating whether the mobile phone is within the home zone associated with the user. When the mobile phone is within the home zone, and based on a user authorization to provide to a video provider information associated with calls, then, for a call to the mobile phone, sending a calling phone identification and a mobile phone destination number to the video provider for insertion of the calling phone identification into a video stream for delivery to the video display device.

  • Patent number: 8335507
Abstract: A method and system for provisioning a wireless communication device with a PRL by making a determination of whether the device is being provisioned under an existing subscriber account or rather under a new subscriber account. Based at least in part on the determination, a PRL is selected and the device is provisioned with the selected PRL. In an exemplary embodiment, the invention may enable a wireless carrier to (i) provision a new subscriber's device with a PRL that defines a preference for voice-over-IP (VoIP) service over legacy voice service and/or (ii) provision an existing subscriber's device with a PRL that defines a preference for legacy voice service over VoIP service.

  • Patent number: 8316457
Abstract: A network system provides IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) service from a network service provider to a customer. A plurality of network elements are connected to form a core domain of the network service provider. A master IMS instance is configured within the core domain and includes a core call session control function (CSCF) and a core home subscriber server (HSS). A partitioned IMS instance is configured as a virtual core within the core domain and includes a partitioned CSCF and a customer HSS accessible by a user of the customer from outside the core domain. A virtual IMS service control interface is coupled between the master IMS instance and the partitioned IMS instance so that the partitioned CSCF has access to the core CSCF for transfer of media.

  • Patent number: 8306882
Abstract: A method and system for differential billing based on the access network through which data traffic flows between a subscriber and a service provider. The service provider may measure the amount of data traffic that flows to and from the subscriber and may determine which access network the traffic flows through on its way between the subscriber and the service provider. Based at least in part on the identity of the access network used, the service provider may determine a fee to charge the subscriber for handling the measured data flow.
