  • Patent number: 7394840
Abstract: Alignment of a laser apparatus is achieved by actively aligning components of the laser apparatus and then passively deriving an optical axis from that alignment. This passive derivation can be achieved by identifying features of an actively aligned optical element, deriving positional data for those features, and developing an optical axis from that positional data. The derivation of positional data may be performed over a particular coordinate system of an image taken of the feature, e.g., obtained by a vision system. The positional data and optical axis may be extrapolated out to a reference coordinate system for use in passively aligning other optical elements.

  • Patent number: 7395473
Abstract: Methods, apparatus, and systems for filtering compacted test responses are disclosed. The methods, apparatus, and systems can be used, for example, to remove the effects of unknown test values. For instance, in one embodiment, a compacted test response from a compactor of a circuit-under-test is received. In this embodiment, the compacted test response includes one or more compacted test response values that are dependent on one or more respective unknown values. The compacted test response is filtered to remove the dependency of at least some of the compacted test response values on the one or more respective unknown values, and a filtered test response is output. Various filtering circuits and testing systems are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20080151879
Abstract: A platform (300) that supports (101) voice over Internet Protocol services for an Internet Protocol-compatible telephone (401), in response to detecting (102) that a given telephone-side capability of supporting the voice over Internet Protocol services for the Internet Protocol-compatible telephone is impaired, can automatically substitute (103) a standard telephone (402) for the Internet Protocol-compatible telephone such that a same telephone number as is used for the Internet Protocol-compatible telephone is also used for the standard telephone. This can comprise, at least in part, automatically interacting with a Session Initiation Protocol proxy server to facilitate the redirection of calls for the Internet Protocol-compatible telephone.

  • Publication number: 20080151844
Abstract: A technique for addressing access point (AP) authentication issues involves providing AP fingerprinting. With AP fingerprinting, it becomes relatively difficult to spoof a basic service set ID (bssid) in a domain. Advantageously, wired connectivity is not required for AP authentication when an AP fingerprint is used. In a specific implementation, 802.11 management packets are used to communicate network identity and authentication information for APs.

  • Publication number: 20080153503
Abstract: A system and method for a dual mode device to intelligently handle incoming communications can include a mobile communication device and a notification engine. The mobile communication device can have more than one communication mode. The notification engine can perform an intelligent notification action whenever the mobile communication device is actively engaged in a communication session and an incoming call for a new session is received. The active session and the new session can correspond to different communication modes that are unable to be concurrently used. One configuration for an intelligent notification can be to selectively notify the mobile device user of the call depending upon a caller's importance level Another configuration for the intelligent notification can be to notify a blocked caller that the called device is busy or is actively being used for communications involving the original communication mode.

  • Patent number: 7392054
Abstract: A resource allocation scheduling method for a cellular communication system that can avoid interference between cells. The method includes dividing a frequency band of a system into frames each having preferential allocation blocks and general allocation blocks on a time axis, classifying terminals in each cell into groups of terminals vulnerable to interference and terminals non-vulnerable to interference, and allocating resources by terminal groups according to priority orders given to the terminal groups. The preferential allocation resources designed to have the orthogonality to the interference cells, i.e., sectors, on the time axis are allocated to the terminals vulnerable to the interference, and the remaining resources are allocated to the terminals non-vulnerable to the interference.

  • Patent number: 7392231
Abstract: A user's preference structure in respect of alternative “objects” with which the user is presented is captured in a multi-attribute utility function. The user ranks these competing objects in order of the user's relative preference for such objects. A utility function that defines the user's preference structure is provided as output on the basis of this relative ranking. This technique can be used to assist a buyer in selecting between multi-attribute quotes or bids submitted by prospective suppliers to the buyer.

  • Publication number: 20080145720
Abstract: A system and method for determining when to provide an anode exhaust gas bleed from a fuel cell stack as the fuel cell stack ages. The method determines the amount of nitrogen flowing from a cathode side to an anode side of the fuel cell stack. The method also determines the amount of nitrogen flowing from the anode side to the cathode side by determining a standard deviation of voltage outputs of the fuel cells, and using the standard deviation as a model for determining the leak rate of nitrogen from the anode side to the cathode side. The method determines the concentration of nitrogen in the anode side based on the nitrogen flow between the cathode and anode side, and opens a bleed valve to bleed the anode exhaust gas if the concentration of nitrogen in the anode side goes above a predetermined value.
