  • Publication number: 20080285511
Abstract: A method and apparatus of scheduling and transmitting uplink packets within uplink sub-frames of a wireless system is disclosed. The method includes determining a size of a standard data unit, and determining if the standard data unit can be transmitted within a single sub-channel of an uplink frame by comparing the size of the standard data unit with a number of bits that can be transmitted within the uplink frame as determined by an uplink quality. If the standard data unit is too large to be transmitted within a single sub-channel of an uplink frame, then the standard data unit is divided into sub-data units. The sub-data units are transmitted over multiple uplink frames.

  • Patent number: 7453792
Abstract: The invention relates to a novel methodology and apparatus for clock-offset compensation and common-phase offset correction in Frequency Division Multiplexing based wireless local area network (WLAN) environment, such as an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) environment. A curve fit, such as a threshold-based, least mean squares (LMS) fit of phase of the pilot sub-carriers in each OFDM symbol is used to estimate and counteract the rotation of the data sub-carriers due to residual frequency offset, low frequency phase noise, and clock offset. The invention is particularly well suited to wireless channels with multipath where pilots typically undergo frequency-selective fading. The thresholding LMS is implemented in a hardware-efficient manner, offering cost advantages over a weighted-LMS alternative. Additionally, the invention uses a unique phase-feedback architecture to eliminate the effects of phase wrapping, and avoid the need to refine channel estimates during packet reception.

  • Publication number: 20080282256
Abstract: A method and structure for inter partition communication within a logical partitioned data processing system are provided. Each partition is configured for an inter partition communication area (IPCA) allocated from partition's own system memory. Each partition's IPCA combined together forms a non-contiguous block of memory which is treated as a virtual shared resource (VSR). Access to VSR is controlled by hypervisor to maintain data security and coherency of the non-shared resources of a partition. Messages are written to and read from VSR under a specific partition's IPCA for inter partition communication. No physical shared or non-shared resources are involved during inter partition communication, hence no extra overhead on those resources, thus achieving optimized performance during inter partition communication.

  • Patent number: 7451210
Abstract: A hybrid method of predicting the occurrence of future critical events in a computer cluster having a series of nodes records system performance parameters and the occurrence of past critical events. A data filter filters the logged to data to eliminate redundancies and decrease the data storage requirements of the system. Time-series models and rule based classification schemes are used to associate various system parameters with the past occurrence of critical events and predict the occurrence of future critical events. Ongoing processing jobs are migrated to nodes for which no critical events are predicted and future jobs are routed to more robust nodes.

  • Patent number: 7450725
Abstract: An active noise cancellation system (20) includes digital modeling of the physical path that is compensated for using a digital filter (34). An initial estimate of the time domain response of the system (20) is achieved using inverse time domain convolution to determine the signal values of a speaker (24) and a microphone (26) in the system. The estimated time domain response of the system is used to determine the initial estimate of the modeled digital filter. In one example, the initial estimate is then used as part of a convergence technique, such as a least mean squares algorithm. In another example, a plurality of initial estimates are determined and then averaged to arrive at the filter value used during noise cancellation.
