  • Publication number: 20170323274
Abstract: A method of providing a recommendation for optimizing operations of a set of industrial assets is disclosed. Digital twins of the set of industrial assets are generated. The digital twins include data structures representing states of each of a plurality of subsystems of the set of industrial assets over a time period. The states are estimated based on an application of simulations using cumulative damage models. The cumulative damage models model the effects of exogenous factors on the operation of the set of industrial assets over the time period. The digital twins are analyzed with respect to simulated operating performances to determine an optimized control of operations of the industrial assets. The optimized control of operations is calculated to jointly and severally to increase the specified operating performance criteria in time present and future of the industrial assets or decrease an economic risk associated with the operation of the industrial assets, within a specified probability.

  • Patent number: 9670264
Abstract: Described herein are recombinant integral membrane proteins having multiple transmembrane domains that have been engineered to be less hydrophobic, through alteration of the amino acid sequence of the native protein, but retain the ability to bind their natural ligand. The decreased hydrophobicity of the described proteins makes them more water soluble than the native protein, which allows the described proteins to be expressed in bacteria in large quantities and isolated in the absence of membranes, all while retaining the ability to interact with known ligands.

  • Patent number: 9555008
Abstract: A method of making a hyperbranched amphiphilic polyester compound includes drying under vacuum a mixture of 2-(4-hydroxybutyl)-malonic acid and p-toluene sulphonic acid as catalyst. The vacuum is then released with a dry inert gas after drying. The dried mixture is heated under the inert gas at a temperature sufficient for polymerization. The inert gas is evacuated while continuing to heat the mixture. The formed polymer is then dissolved in dimethylformamide and precipitated out by adding methanol. Modifications of the method yield nanoparticles of polyesters having properties suited for coencapsulating fluorescent dyes together with therapeutic drugs, resulting in theranostic nanoparticles, that is, nanoparticles useful in both therapeutic treatments and diagnostic methods.

  • Patent number: 9533861
Abstract: An apparatus for hoisting and positioning a load in a self-balanced manner regardless of the position of its center of gravity. The apparatus comprises an upper platform adapted for being hoisted from a general hoisting point, a lower platform adapted the attachment of a load to be hoisted and positioned, and a six degrees of freedom actuator comprising six variable length tendons, adapted for moving the lower frame with respect the upper frame in the three directions of the space and tilted around the three axis of the space. A configurable counterweight system supported by the upper platform is arranged for modifying the center of mass of the apparatus over a horizontal plane, and processing means are configured for dynamically calculating a desired position of the counterweight system, for balancing the apparatus with the respect to a general hoisting point.

  • Publication number: 20160320379
Abstract: The present invention provides novel compositions of binding moiety-nanoparticle conjugates, aggregates of these conjugates, and novel methods of using these conjugates, and aggregates. The nanoparticles in these conjugates can be magnetic metal oxides, either monodisperse or polydisperse. Binding moieties can be, e.g., oligonucleotides, polypeptides, or polysaccharides. Oligonucleotide sequences are linked to either non-polymer surface functionalized metal oxides or with functionalized polymers associated with the metal oxides. The novel compositions can be used in assays for detecting target molecules, such as nucleic acids and proteins, in vitro or as magnetic resonance (MR) contrast agents to detect target molecules in living organisms.

  • Publication number: 20160268093
Abstract: An overcurrent protection device comprises a current input terminal; a central terminal for output of current overshoots; and a terminal for output of non-impulse currents connected to a voltage of the central terminal. An electrical conductor element is connected between the input and output terminals at a reduced self-induction when operating without current overshoots. When current overshoots are present at the input terminal, the conductor produces a high drop of induction voltage between the input and output terminals. The central terminal is arranged in the vicinity of the input terminal at a distance that may be regulated. When due to current overshoot, the inductive voltage drop between the input and the non-impulse current output terminals exceed the dielectric strength of the material present between the input and central terminals, an arc is generated between the input and central terminals to prevent the flow of current overshoots through the conductor element.

  • Patent number: 9442110
Abstract: A system and method are provided to detect target analytes based on magnetic resonance measurements. Magnetic structures produce distinct magnetic field regions having a size comparable to the analyte. When the analyte is bound in those regions, magnetic resonance signals from the sample are changed, leading to detection of the analyte.

  • Publication number: 20160253914
Abstract: An educational activity system allows a teacher to specify activity parameters, such as subject, grade level, and template format that define an activity for one or more students to complete on a computer. The system then uses the selected activity parameters to determine appropriate subject matter from a content asset database and generates an activity incorporating the determined appropriate subject matter. After a student completed the activity via a computer, the system evaluates the completed activity for correctness and stores the results of each student in a student performance database.

  • Publication number: 20160074334
Abstract: Differential surface-charge-dependent localization of nanoceria in normal cells and cancer cells plays a critical role in the toxicity profile of a nanoceria particle. Engineered surface-coated cerium oxide nanoparticles with different surface charges that are positive, negative and neutral provide therapeutic results for normal and cancer cell lines. Results show that nanoceria with a positive or neutral charge enters most of the cell lines studied, while nanoceria with a negative charge internalizes mostly in the cancer cell lines. Moreover, upon entry into the cells, nanoceria is localized to different cell compartments (e.g. cytoplasm and lysosomes) depending on the nanoparticle surface charge. The internalization and subcellular localization of nanoceria plays a key role in the nanoparticle cytotoxicity profile, exhibiting significant toxicity when they localize in the lysosomes of the cancer cell lines.
