  • Patent number: 5336277
Abstract: The resistance of in-tank fuel pump copper commutators to become excessively worn by exposure to petroleum fuels containing at least 10 mg/liter of elemental sulfur is substantially increased by the addition of at least about 5 mg/liter of an organomercaptan, compound and at least about 25 mg/liter of a copper metal deactivator capable of forming a sulfur - resistant barrier coating on the copper commutator, to produce a novel fuel composition.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 26, 1992
Date of Patent: August 9, 1994
Assignee: Exxon Research & Engineering Co.
Inventors: Marc A. Poirier, Robert J. Falkiner
  • Patent number: 5250181
Abstract: A process for removing elemental sulfur from fluids such as refined petroleum products transported through pipelines for the transportation of sour hydrocarbon streams. The fluids are contacted with an aqueous solution containing caustic, an aliphatic mercaptan and optionally a sulfide to produce an aqueous layer containing metal polysulfides and a clear fluid layer having a reduced elemental sulfur level.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 8, 1992
Date of Patent: October 5, 1993
Assignee: Exxon Research and Engineering Company
Inventors: Robert J. Falkiner, Marc A. Poirier, Ian D. Campbell
  • Patent number: 5199978
Abstract: The present invention provides a process for removing elemental sulfur from fluids such as refined petroleum products transported through pipelines for the transportation of sour hydrocarbon streams. The sulfur-containing fluids are mixed with an inorganic caustic material, an alkyl alcohol and an organo mercaptan or sulfide compound capable of reacting with sulfur to form a fluid-insoluble polysulfide salt reaction product at ambient reaction temperatures. The treated fluid is then contacted with an adsorbent or filtered to remove the insoluble salt leaving a product of very low residual sulfur content.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: April 6, 1993
Assignee: Exxon Research and Engineering Company

  • Patent number: 5160045
Abstract: A process for removing elemental sulfur from fluids such as refined petroleum products transported through pipelines for the transportation of sour hydrocarbon streams. The fluids are contacted with an aqueous solution containing caustic, sulfide and optionally elemental sulfur to produce an aqueous layer containing metal polysulfides and a clear fluid layer having a reduced elemental sulfur level. Organo mercaptans may also be mixed with the fluid to accelerate the removal of elemental sulfur.

  • Patent number: 5118325
Abstract: Certain aminofulvene derivatives are effective in improving the antiknock performance of gasoline when used in an internal combustion engine. Particularly preferred aminofulvene derivatives are 2-methoxycarbonyl-6-(dimethylamino)fulvene; 2,3-dimethoxycarbonyl-6-(dimethylamino)fulvene; or mixtures thereof.

  • Patent number: 4295939
Abstract: A method and a device for detecting a gaseous anhydride and measuring its concentration in an oxygen-bearing gas. The method comprises the following steps: (a) forming an electrolytic junction by contact between a first solid-electrolyte element containing oxyanions of the anhydride to be detected and a second, 0.sup.
