  • Patent number: 8400260
Abstract: The subject application is directed to securing authorized access to a document processing device. Address information data associated with each mobile data device is first stored in a data storage. An incoming data message is received from a first mobile data device having identifier data assigned to the mobile device. The identifier data is then compared to stored address data and operation of a document processing device is selectively enabled via a user interface associated with the processing device according to an indication that identifier data corresponding to the received data is present in the storage. Electronic document data corresponding to an electronic document is received into the document processing device. Instruction data associated with a document processing operation is then received via the interface. Confirmation data is sent to the mobile device confirming the desired document processing operation. The desired operation is then commenced on the electronic document data.

  • Publication number: 20120200875
Abstract: Pattern based scan batch separation is disclosed. A method includes receiving from a user specification of a pattern in a document set, sensing pages, scanning the pages, applying the pattern specification to the pages to create a group of documents, the group of documents including a plurality of documents separated according to the pattern specification. A group of documents is stored in a destination location. The method may be implemented as instructions such as software or firmware and may be performed by a multifunction peripheral (MFP).

  • Publication number: 20120110506
Abstract: The subject application is directed to computer file navigation. The identification of a user is received followed by a menu selection instruction. Uniquely identified data storage areas and uniquely identified secondary data storage areas are then defined in a data storage. Each secondary area includes history data relative to the user's prior access. A menu area is then generated that includes use-selectable indicia, each corresponding to one of a subset of the storage areas. A user-positionable pointer is generated on the menu area, a position of the pointer is detected relative to the indicia, and an indicium is generated proximate to the pointer in accordance with the detected position. A listing of secondary areas corresponding to the selected indicium is generated and displayed in an order based on the associated history data. A selection of one the secondary areas is received from the user and its history data is updated.

  • Patent number: 7865104
Abstract: The subject application is directed to a system and method for generating a user customizable default user interface for a document processing device. First, screen data representing each of a plurality of different user interfaces is stored. Each user interface includes visual representations of a unique subset of controls associated with operation of the associated document processing device. Identification data is then acquired from an associated user. A display is generated representing each of the different user interfaces. Selection data representing a selected user interface as a default user interface is then received. Data associating the default user interface with the identification data is stored. Thereafter, a display is generated of the default user interface upon login of the associated user on the document processing device.

  • Patent number: 7779364
Abstract: The subject application is directed to a system and method for generating a graphical user input interface via an associated graphical user interface. Data representative of a user input interface from storage. Preferably, this data includes graphical representations of each character associated with a standard QWERTY keyboard, inclusive of modified characters. The retrieved graphical data is then used to generate a user input interface on an associated touch screen. The user then selects a character from those characters displayed via the touch screen. The selected character is then displayed to the user in an associated data field.

  • Patent number: 7711656
Abstract: A system and method for data service management of electronic files. A user selects the file or files to be stored on a remote storage device. The user is also able to selectively scan to archive, or storage, a document or other data. The user then selects the appropriate payment option. The user is presented with the total cost of the service, and upon acceptance, the selected service is performed. The details of the transaction are archived and the user is billed for the service. The fees charged are based on the number of pages of the document, file, or other data stored. The fees are charged at the commencement of the services, rather than each day. The fees are also based on the location form which the services are accessed based on selected criteria of such location. Renewal of the storage duration includes fees are those fees charged when the document, file, or other data was first stored.

  • Patent number: 7652783
Abstract: This invention is directed to a document processing system and method. The method begins with a user logging onto a document processing system, inputs identification data, and selects one or more documents for document processing by the document processing system. The selected document is then uploaded to the document processing system, which renders the document to determine the number of pages and other document relevant information. The user then selects one of the available service locations. The cost associated with the requested document processing operation is then calculated and displayed to the user, along with available payment options. Once the user has selected the desired payment method, the document, with selected options and preferences, is transmitted to the selected service location for output on a document processing device thereon. The received request is stored in queue until such time as the user releases the request for further processing.

  • Publication number: 20090222732
Abstract: The subject application is directed to a system and method for server-directed document input via a document processor interface. A thin client interface is generated on a graphical display associated with a document processing device via a web server. The document processing device is controlled via a controller using software instructions. User instructions relative to a scanning operation are then received and data corresponding to the user instructions is communicated to the server via a network interface. The server receives the user instructions and generates device control instructions. The control instructions are communicated to the controller of the processing device. Operation of a scanner integrated with the processing device is commenced and scanning is performed of an electronic document from a tangible document positioned on the scanner according to the device control instructions. The electronic document is communicated from the processing device to the server via the network interface.

  • Patent number: 7536646
Abstract: The subject application is directed to a system and method for customizing a document processor interface. A user successfully logs onto a document processing device and selects to generate a customized graphical user-interface. When the user has previously created such an interface, the device retrieves stored selection data associated with the user and uses such data to selectively generate a customized interface. To create the customized interface, the user first selects desired functions to be displayed. The selected functions are then stored in association with user identification information by the device. A tangible output document is capable of being generated inclusive of encoded indicia representing selection data and user identification information.

  • Publication number: 20090070492
Abstract: The subject application is directed to a system and method for a presence of a portable memory medium. A plurality of graphical elements are first generated on an associated display, each of which correspond to a unique portable data storage medium interface. Device data is then received representing a presence of a portable data storage medium in at least one of the portable data storage medium interfaces. An indicator is then generated on the associated display corresponding to each graphical element associated with a portable data storage medium interface for which a presence of a portable data storage medium is indicated via received device data.

  • Patent number: 7493569
Abstract: A system and method for visually encoding related functions on a multi-function document output device control interface is provided. A set of main functions are configured as hardware buttons, capable of being distinguished from each other through the use of backlighting. The color associated with the backlighting for each function button is unique and used in an associated visual interface display, such as a touch-screen interface, to distinguish secondary functions corresponding to the main function selected. The visual interface display then depicts to the associated user options or preferences as icons, tabs, or the like, each visualized in a color or shade of color associated with the primary function.

  • Publication number: 20080184152
Abstract: The subject application is directed to a system and method for task sequence progress tracking. Following the receipt of data representative of a multi-step document processing operation to be performed on an associated electronic document a linear display is generated including multiple segments. Each segment corresponds to a specific step of the multi-step processing operation. The appearance of segments in the linear display is changed in accordance with progress of the processing operation. The segments in the linear display representing a future step, a current step, and a completed step, have different appearances. Therefore, the user is always oriented to where he is at in a multiple step process and knows how many steps remain.

  • Publication number: 20080174808
Abstract: The subject application is directed to a system and method for routing electronic documents to an unspecified document processing device. An electronic document is first routed to a document processing queue via a computer network. The queue is further accessible by multiple document processing devices via the network. A job processing request is then received from an associated user via a user interface associated with a selected document processing device. The request includes an instruction from the user to commence processing of the electronic document that is stored in the document processing queue. The job processing request is then communicated to the document processing queue for release to the selected device.
