  • Patent number: 8776709
Abstract: A transportable watercraft stabilization apparatus includes a stability device configured to impart a stabilizing torque to a watercraft when mounted on the watercraft and a transportable containment device containing the stability device therein. The transportable containment device includes a first attachment apparatus for releasably attaching to a transporting means and a second attachment apparatus for releasably attaching to a coupling device onboard a watercraft. Furthermore, the transportable watercraft stabilization apparatus includes a power source configured to provide power to the stability device for generating the stabilizing torque. The watercraft stabilization apparatus is transportable between a first watercraft and a second watercraft for providing on-demand stabilization to the second watercraft.

  • Patent number: 8726762
Abstract: A tunable mass damper (TMD) is provided that can be coupled to a rotating inertia apparatus such as a reaction wheel assembly (RWA). The TMD includes a housing that contains a flexure, a mass, and damping fluid within the housing. The housing is coupled to the flexure, and the flexure is coupled to the mass. The mass is free to sway in the damping fluid. The damping fluid envelops the mass and provides damping between the mass and the housing. At least one of the mass, flexure and the damping fluid can be adjusted to tune the TMD to produce a resonance at or near a mode that is to be mitigated by the TMD such that it operates at a desired or optimal operating frequency.

  • Publication number: 20120156453
Abstract: A method of providing a metal interconnect to second structures embedded in organic dielectric material is disclosed. In one aspect, the method includes obtaining a first structure with second structures, e.g., metal pillars, embedded in organic dielectric material. The method further includes, at least at some locations of the first structure, providing a stiffening layer on top of the organic dielectric material, the stiffening layer having a stiffness higher than the stiffness of the organic dielectric material. The method provides an interconnect structure free from cracks at the interface between the second structures and the organic dielectric material.

  • Patent number: 7659802
Abstract: A bi-stable magnetic switch assembly comprises a stator having an axis and first and second magnetic portions angularly disposed there around, and a rotor having at least one magnetic region attracted to the first and second portions. The rotor is configured for rotation about the axis between (1) a first latched position wherein the region resides proximate to, but is spaced apart from, the first portion; and (2) a second latched position wherein the region resides proximate to, but is spaced apart from, the second portion. A spring biases the rotor to a position where the region resides intermediate the first and second portions. A coil, which is associated with at least one of the first portion, the second portion, and the region, may be energized to reduce the force of attraction between the region and the first and second portions when in the first and second latched positions, respectively.

  • Publication number: 20080067003
Abstract: Step-stool assemblies and related methods are described. A step-stool assembly comprises an inner base frame and a continuous outer shell. The inner base frame includes a first loadable surface near a top thereof. The outer shell unitarily extends from an upper portion to a lower portion. The lower portion includes a size and shape disposable around, and attachable with, an outer perimeter of the inner base frame. The upper portion is configured to extend above the first loadable surface of the base frame and includes a second loadable surface. The outer shell includes at least one foot-receiving aperture to provide access to the first loadable surface when the outer shell and inner base frame are attached. In an example, a perimeter of the shell lower portion is greater than the base frame outer perimeter, while a perimeter of the shell upper portion is less than the base frame outer perimeter.

  • Patent number: 7340994
Abstract: A grill apparatus for cooking small and delicate food is provided. The grill apparatus is a cooking grate having a plurality of apertures extending through the cooking area of the cooking grate. Because of the location and dimension of the apertures, a continuous line of the cooking area extends a length that is substantially less than the distance from one edge of the cooking grate to an opposing edge of the cooking grate to prevent warping of the cooking grate.
