  • Publication number: 20050161864
Abstract: An apparatus for molding a plastic closure includes a male mold assembly including a forming pin and an outer pin sleeve which cooperate with a female mold for defining a mold cavity. To facilitate mechanical stripping of a molded closure from the forming pin, pressurized air is introduced into the molded closure through at least one air passageway which extends axially between the forming pin and pin sleeve. By outwardly expanding and forming the plastic closure during ejection from the forming pin, forces to which the closure is subjected during ejection are significantly reduced, thereby desirably reducing the amount of cooling of the closure that is required during the molding cycle prior to ejection. Significantly increased operating speeds for the compression molding apparatus can thus be achieved.

  • Publication number: 20050016556
Abstract: Smokable rods of cigarettes are manufactured using wrapping materials that incorporate at least one fibrous material (e.g., flax fibers, hardwood pulp fibers and/or softwood pulp fibers) at least one filler material (e.g., calcium carbonate in particulate form). The wrapping materials possess multi-layer coatings. The wrapping materials possess coatings in the form of series of spaced apart bands, each band possessing a series of layers. At least one of the coating layers can have a filler material dispersed or suspended within a film-forming material of that layer. For a representative wrapping material, a pattern of applied to the wire side major surface of the wrapping material substrate as a plurality of layers, and at least one of the layers includes ethylcellulose and calcium carbonate. For that layer, the calcium carbonate is present in an amount greater than the ethylcellulose, on a weight basis.

  • Patent number: 6832706
Abstract: A dispensing closure assembly includes an outer closure body having an upper tubular portion which can function as a mouthpiece for users. The closure assembly includes a flexible valve member mounted within the tubular portion of the closure body for dispensing of liquids or like contents by either the application of suction by a consumer, or by squeezing the associated container. By the provision of a liquid seal lip which coacts with an inside surface of the flexible valve member, the closure assembly can be configured to facilitate convenient use by consumers, while avoiding undesirable leakage attendant to normal handling during use.

  • Patent number: 6786157
Abstract: A shaped charge explosive device (10) comprising an explosive charge body including an explosive charge (18) defining a cavity particulate material (44) dispersible by the explosive charge when detonated, eg in a liner lining the cavity. In a preferred embodiment of this device of particular applicability to use in avalanche control, the particulate medium is aluminium. This is energized by the liner collapse and jetting process such that on impact and interaction with a snow/ice target it gererates a directed blast effect extending beyond that achievable with a simple blast charge of the same mass. Direct application to hand charge avalanche control methods and modified ammunition for Avalauncher ammunition are presented. Two of such charges with a conical liner can be positioned either facing each other or facing away form each other to obtain a particular blast pattern.

Abstract: An apparatus for extruding plastic, including a plastic feed, an extruder, a colored liquid additive supply, a positive displacement metering pump, and a controller. The extruder has a housing receiving plastic from the plastic feed, a heat source, and a screw adapted to drive plastic through the housing The pump supplies colored liquid additive from the supply to the plastic in the phase change section of the extruder housing. The controller controls the drive rate of the screw and the pump to supply a selected volume of colored liquid additive per unit of time which is based on the drive rate of the screw. In use, the extruder is converted to adding a different color without cleaning the housing feeding section.
