Abstract: Described is a genus of compounds defined according to the structure: ##STR1## hereinafter termed "norbornyl esters" wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 represent methyl or hydrogen with the proviso that at least one of R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 is hydrogen as well as uses thereof in augmenting or enhancing the aroma or taste of consumable materials including foodstuffs, chewing gums, medicinal products, toothpastes, chewing tobaccos, smoking tobaccos, smoking tobacco articles, perfume compositions, colognes and perfumed articles (including, but not limited to, solid or liquid anionic, cationic, nonionic or zwitterionic detergents, fabric softener compositions, fabric softener articles, hair preparations and perfumed polymers). Also described is a novel process for preparing such norbornyl esters.

Abstract: Described are isopropyl tetramethylindan musks defined according to the generic structure: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are each acetyl or methyl with the provisos:(a) one of R.sub.3 or R.sub.4 is methyl;(b) when R.sub.4 is methyl, then R.sub.3 is acetyl and(c) when R.sub.4 is acetyl, R.sub.3 is methyland organoleptic uses thereof in augmenting or enhancing the aroma of perfume compositions, colognes and perfumed articles.

Abstract: Described are isopropyl tetramethylindan musks defined according to the generic structure: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are each acetyl or methyl with the provisos:(a) one of R.sub.3 or R.sub.4 is methyl;(b) when R.sub.4 is methyl, then R.sub.3 is acetyl and(c) when R.sub.4 is acetyl, R.sub.3 is methyland organoleptic uses thereof in augmenting or enhancing the aroma of perfume compositions, colognes and perfumed articles. Also described is a process for preparing same by means of first rearranging a tetralin derivative defined according to the structure: ##STR2## to form at least one compound defined according to the structure: ##STR3## and then reacting the compound having the structure: ##STR4## with a compound of the genus: ##STR5## wherein Z represents acetoxy, chloro or bromo in order to form at least one compound defined according to the structure: ##STR6## wherein one of R.sub.1 or R.sub.2 is methyl and the other of R.sub.1 or R.sub.2 is hydrogen.

Abstract: A process comprising the steps of reacting 1-acetyl-3,3-dimethylcyclohexane with an alkyl acetate, thereby forming a diketone having the structure: ##STR1## reacting the said diketone with an allyl halide to form a substituted diketone having the structure: ##STR2## which is transformed into the compound having the structure: ##STR3## by means of a retro-Claisen reaction.
