  • Publication number: 20080275807
Abstract: The trading of interest rate swaps or other interest rate derivatives gives rise to mismatch exposure. This can be offset by a series of FRA trades. Rather than conducting a series of exposure neutral trades, FRAs can be bought or sold for the entire amount of a trader's reset exposure. To hedge the offset trades, a series of IMM FRA trades are conducted. The relative size of the IMM contracts will be determined by the distance in time from the IMM quarterly contract settlement date. A system is disclosed for performing offset trades and IMM hedges. The embodiments allow for non-neutral trading and subsequent heging brings trading back to a neutral position.

  • Publication number: 20080276129
Abstract: Trace information is selectively generated for a software routine based on the perceived reliability of the software routine. The software routine includes at least one trace point having an active state and an inactive state. A previously-established reliability indicator for the software routine is read before the routine is executed. The reliability indicator is based on criteria such as age, prior level of testing, source, number or previously detected faults and/or number of prior successful executions. If the reliability indicator meets a predetermined threshold, the active state is selected for the trace point. If the reliability indicator does not meet the predetermined threshold, the inactive state is selected for the trace point.

  • Patent number: 7437825
Abstract: A mechanism is provided for use in a can opener comprising a body; rotationally mounting to the body about a first axis a drive wheel for engaging the rim of a can; rotationally mounting to the body about a second axis and drivably rotatable by the drive wheel, a cutter wheel; eccentrically mounting to said cutter wheel, a cutting knife movable on rotation of the cutter wheel to a cutting position in which the cutter knife forms a nip with the drive wheel such that the cutting knife penetrates through the cylindrical wall of the can, to provide a cut therein as the opener orbits relatively therearound, wherein the cutting position is defined by a cutting interval corresponding to a segment of rotation of the cutter wheel in which the cutting knife is sufficiently proximal to the drive wheel to form the nip.

  • Patent number: 7437650
Abstract: An interleaver address generator is provided with pruning avoidance technology. It anticipates the points in time when incorrect addresses are computed by an IAG, and bypasses these events. It produces a stream of valid, contiguous addresses for all specified code block sizes. A single address computation engine firstly ‘trains’ itself about violating generated addresses (for a related block size) during the initial H1 half-iteration of decoder operation, and then produces a continuous, correct stream of addresses as required by the turbo decoder. Thus regions of pruned addresses are determined, and then training is performed only in these regions. Thus, computation and population of a pruned event table is determined in less than 1/10 the time required to do a conventional style full training. The resulting pruned event table is compressed down to 256 bits.

  • Publication number: 20080239695
Abstract: A device for controlling projected light beam from an electronic flash, this invention consists of a tube of elastic material such as neoprene or polyurethane (4), with a light side (6) and a dark side (5). The shape and elasticity of this device allow its configuration to change by rolling the snoot over on itself. Rolling the snoot partially upon itself, changing its length, will thereby change the size of the projected light beam. Rolling the snoot inside out will select a different interior reflectivity, thus a different quality of projected light.

  • Publication number: 20080229885
Abstract: A hand held, one touch jar opener can be placed on a jar and activated with a momentary touch of a button. An epicyclic gear train is set to sequentially provide a grip on a jar, and on a lid, followed by development of torque needed to move the lid in a counterclockwise direction with respect to the jar. The principles embodied in the opener shown can be realized in an opener which can be manually powered, or preferably motorised and possibly highly automated. A differential geartrain provides reduction of speed and increase in torque and then provides two balanced and opposing forces through the epicyclic gear assembly having sun and planet gears. This configuration enables a wide variety of screw-on lids and jars to be automatically closed to match the correct diameters, apply a gripping force and then apply torque in an opposing direction.

  • Patent number: 7426649
Abstract: A method and system for enabling directed temperature/power management at the DIMM-level and/or DRAM-level utilizing intelligent scheduling of memory access operations received at the memory controller. Hot spots within the memory subsystem, caused by operating the DIMMs/DRAMs above predetermined/preset threshold power/temperature values for operating a DIMM and/or a DRAM, are avoided/controlled by logic within the memory controller. The memory controller logic throttles the number/frequency at which commands (read/write operations) are issued to the specific DIMM/DRAM based on stored parameter values and tracking of outstanding operations issued to the memory subsystem devices.
