  • Patent number: 11140655
Abstract: Examples pertaining to improved Globally Unique Temporary Identity (GUTI) allocation after establishment of mobile-terminated connection in mobile communications are described. An apparatus implemented in a UE receives a paging message from a network node of a wireless network. The apparatus then transmits a request to the network node responsive to receiving the paging message. In response to transmitting the request, the apparatus receives a signaling from the network node, with the signaling indicating a new temporary identity of the UE.

  • Patent number: 11071043
Abstract: A method of enhanced handling of a Forbidden Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN) list is proposed. When a UE tries to attach to a PLMN and receives an ATTACH Reject message having no integrity protection, it could be transmitted from a network entity trying to block the PLMN for providing service. Therefore, by introducing a temporary forbidden PLMN list and a timer T3247, UE can avoid adding the PLMN ID to the Forbidden PLMN list and avoid being blocked for network access. Instead, UE is only temporary refrained from selecting the PLMN ID and is able to retry for the network access after T3247 expiry. The temporary list together with T3247 mechanism thus gives UE more opportunity to try with the same PLMN ID at a different time and/or a different UE location, where the malicious blocking is no longer available.

  • Publication number: 20210092598
Abstract: Examples pertaining to user equipment (UE) key derivation at mobility update in mobile communications are described. An apparatus implemented in a UE conducts a registration with a first Access and Mobility Management Function (AMF) of a network. The apparatus also conducts one other registration with a second AMF of the network over a 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) access. In response, the apparatus receives a request from the second AMF over the 3GPP access. The apparatus then performs a key derivation to generate a derived key using a keying material from the initial registration with the first AMF to result in the UE and the second AMF sharing a common security context for the 3GPP access and a non-3GPP access.

  • Patent number: 10939347
Abstract: Various examples pertaining to application of non-access stratum (NAS)-level congestion control timer values at intersystem change in mobile communications are described. A user equipment (UE) receives an indication of a NAS-level congestion control from a first type of wireless network. The UE starts a timer responsive to the receiving of the indication of the NAS-level congestion control. The UE then performs an intersystem change from the first type of wireless network to a second type of wireless network different from the first type by utilizing the timer.

  • Publication number: 20210051576
Abstract: A method of registering to slices with mapped S-NSSAI alone in a 5GS is described. The method can include, upon a UE entering a VPLMN, the UE having a first PDN connection or a first PDU session that is to be transferred to the VPLMN and associated with a first HPLMN S-NSSAI, determining whether the UE has a first VPLMN S-NSSAI applicable in the VPLMN corresponding to the first HPLMN S-NSSAI. If not, a registration request message can be transmitted to register to a slice of the VPLMN for transferring the first PDN connection or the first PDU session to the VPLMN. The registration request message can include the first HPLMN S-NSSAI as a first mapped S-NSSAI for indicating the slice of the VPLMN to which the UE intends to register for transferring the first PDN connection or the first PDU session.

  • Patent number: 10917838
Abstract: Various examples pertaining to handling of Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN)-specific attempt counter in mobile communications are described. An apparatus (e.g., user equipment) detects an occurrence of a predefined condition. In response to the detecting, the apparatus performs certain operations, including: (i) adding a visited Public Land Mobile Network (VPLMN) identification (ID) to a list of one or more forbidden PLMNs stored in a storage device, (ii) removing the VPLMN ID from a list of extension of forbidden PLMNs stored in the storage device; and (iii) resetting a PLMN-specific attempt counter specific to the PLMN ID to zero.

  • Patent number: 10897701
Abstract: Examples pertaining to no subscription permanent identifier (SUPI) or no non-3GPP coverage in 5G mobile communications are described. A processor controls a communication device of a UE to connect to one or more wireless networks and receive one or more 5GS services via a 3GPP access and a non-3GPP access. The processor performs either a first procedure or a second procedure. The first procedure involves: (i) detecting either no Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) being inserted in the UE or a SIM inserted in the UE being invalid; and (ii) entering the UE into a 5G no-SUPI substate responsive to the detecting. The second procedure involves: (i) performing registration or determining that the UE is registered to one or more 5GS services over the non-3GPP access; (ii) detecting an absence of non-3GPP coverage; and (iii) entering the UE into a no access point available substate responsive to the detecting.

  • Publication number: 20200322795
Abstract: A UE receives a first NAS Security Mode Command message or a NAS Container, which includes an indication to change a common NAS security context that is in use on both accesses, from a 33GP core network over one access, when the UE is in a connected state on both accesses and the UE is using the common NAS security context on both accesses. In response, the UE activates a new NAS security context over the one access. After that, the UE receives a second NAS Security Mode Command message, which includes a KSI associated with the common NAS security context, from the 3GPP core network over the other access, and aligns the common NAS security context in use on the other access with the new NAS security context in use on the one access.

  • Publication number: 20200323017
Abstract: A method of non-access stratum (NAS) recovery from NAS container (NASC) failure in 5G New Radio (NR) mobile communication network is proposed. The UE performs NAS layer registration and enters 5GMM connected mode in NAS layer through its serving base station. Later on, the UE performs a handover or inter-system change procedure and receives NASC IE from the network. Upon detecting the NASC verification failure, the UE aborts the handover or the inter-system change procedure and goes to IDLE mode. The UE also takes action to synchronize NAS security contexts with the network by triggering a registration procedure for mobility.
