  • Publication number: 20010007843
Abstract: The invention relates to an arrangement and a method for controlling an adjusting speed for a change of an actual transmission ratio into a steady-state desired transmission ratio (shifting operation) for a continuously variable transmission mounted in the drive train of a motor vehicle. In the arrangement of the invention, it is provided that the shifting operation is subdivided into individual periods (dT) of fixed duration. During each period (dT), a dynamic desired transmission ratio (udyn) is determined by multiplying the steady-state desired transmission ratio (ustat) by a gradient (udot). The change of the actual transmission ratio (u) into a dynamic desired transmission ratio (udyn) of each period (dT) takes place with a constant adjusting speed (vu).

  • Patent number: 6181802
Abstract: A method of encoding invisible identification code into an image, which is highly resistant to degradation across communications links, and which does not require the presence of the original image for decoding, comprises analyzing the image and determining strongly featured regions such as edges, and inserting code into such regions by altering the structure of the image in a predictable manner, as for example a concave elliptical insert centered on and aligned with an edge, which alteration is not visible to the eye. When decoding, area of concavity are determined, and a correlation is performed with a predicted insert function to assess whether code has been inserted. A hardware embodiment is described.

  • Patent number: 6168546
Abstract: The invention proceeds from a control of a transmission, which is continuously adjustable with respect to its transmission ratio, for a motor vehicle wherein the transmission together with a drive unit is mounted in the drive train of the motor vehicle. The drive unit has an adjustable output torque. According to the invention, determination means for determining a quantity is provided which represents the instantaneous maximum transmittable torque of the transmission. Furthermore, the output torque of the drive unit is limited to a limit value by limiting means. This limit value is determined in dependence upon the above-determined quantity. In order to reliably protect the transmission against damage by increased slippage, it is therefore provided according to the invention to limit the torque outputted by the engine when the contact force is so small that the danger of slippage exists. The torque of the motor can, in general, be more rapidly limited than the contact force can be increased.

  • Patent number: 6154701
Abstract: The invention proceeds from a control of the drive train of a motor vehicle having at least a drive unit and an automatic transmission. During driving operation, a desired value for the drive torque of the vehicle or for the transmission output torque is pregiven by the driver. The different operating points of the drive train are characterized by at least different output torques of the drive unit and rpm ratios and/or different output rpms of the drive unit. The essence of the invention is that, during driving operation, a set of evaluation quantities is determined for each possible operating point. One of the possible operating points is then selected as an optimal operating point via an optimization method based on the determined evaluation quantities. The transmission ratio, which belongs to this selected optimal operating point, is then adjusted on the transmission.
