    Abstract: A silicone resin-containing emulsion composition is prepared by emulsion polymerizing a solution containing a water-insoluble silanol group-bearing silicone resin and a radical polymerizable vinyl monomer and substantially free of an organic solvent. The emulsion may further contain a film-forming assistant having a boiling point of at least 100.degree. C. and soluble or uniformly dispersible in water. The emulsion can be coated and cured into a film having mar resistance, weather resistance, and chemical resistance.

    Abstract: A coating agent composition comprising:(A) an organic resin, and(B) a silicone compound represented by the average composition formula (1):(X).sub.a (Y').sub.b (R.sup.1).sub.c SiO.sub.(4-a-b-c)/2 (1)wherein X is a particular functional group containing organic group, Y' is a hydrolyzable group or an admixture of a hydrolyzable group and the silanol group, R.sup.1 is a monovalent hydrocarbon group, a ranges from 0.05 to 0.90, b 0.12 to 1.88, and c 0.10 to 1.00, a+b+c being in the range of 2.02 to 2.67. The amount of the silicon atoms to which said functional group-containing organic group x is bonded is 5 to 90 mol % based on the entire silicon atoms, and the amount of the T unit of R.sup.1 --SiO.sub.3/2 is 10 to 95 mole % based on the entire siloxane units. This composition is useful to form a coating film excellent in weathering resistance, adhesion, stain resistance, scuffing resistance, water resistance and chemical resistance and therefore suitable for protection of articles exposed outdoors.

    Abstract: A photocatalytic coating composition comprising (A) a coat-forming element capable of forming a coating of silicone resin when cured and (B) a photocatalyst dispersed therein. The coat-forming element is comprised of an organopolysiloxane having a monovalent organic C.sub.1 -C.sub.18 group and a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy group. The coating composition is applied to an article and cured to form a silicone coating thereon. When the coating is exposed to light, typically UV, the photocatalyst is excited to provide photocatalysis permitting organic groups attached to silicon atoms of silicone molecules at the coating surface to be replaced by hydroxyl groups in the presence of water, thereby rendering the coating surface hydrophilic. Thereafter, the coating maintains water affinity semi-eternally and has improved weather resistance.

The organopolysiloxane is obtained by subjecting an organic functional group-containing alkoxysilane, with or without a functional group-free alkoxysilane, siloxane and/or silicone obtained from the group-free alkoxysiloxane and/or siloxane, to hydrolysis and polycondensation in the presence of a substantially neutral fluorine-containing compound.     Abstract: A process of producing an organopolysiloxane, comprising hydrolyzing and condensing an alkoxysilane having the formula:R.sub.m Si(OR.sup.1).sub.4-mwherein R is a monovalent hydrocarbon group, R.sup.1 is an alkyl group and m is an integer of 0 to 3, or a partial hydrolysis-condensation product thereof, in the presence of a fluorine compound selected from the group consisting of fluoride salt compounds and fluorine-containing silicon compounds having at least one Si-F bond in its molecule. The organopolysiloxane obtained contains little silanol groups and has a narrow molecular weight distribution. Therefore, curable silicone resin compositions containing the organopolysiloxane as a raw material have good shelf stability, drying characteristics and curability, and are free of fear of catching fire or contamination of surroundings. An organopolysiloxane having a variety of functional groups can be readily produced.

    Abstract: An alkoxysilane is brought into a hydrolysis-polycondensation reaction using a fluoride salt, e.g. NaF, or a fluorine-containing silicon compound having an Si--F bond in its molecule, e.g. FSi(OCH.sub.3).sub.3, as a catalyst, to produce a powder of a silicon compound such as silica. The process reduces markedly the period of time required for the hydrolysis-polycondensation reaction and yields a porous silicon compound powder with low bulk specific gravity. The organosilyl group-containing moiety is introduced into the resin by the copolymerization of an organosilane compound represented by the general formula Vi--R.sup.1 --SiMe.sub.3-n (OR.sup.2).sub.n, in which Vi is a vinyl group, Me is a methyl group, R.sup.1 is a divalent hydrocarbon group having 4 to 12 carbon atoms, R.sup.2 is a monovalent hydrocarbon group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms and n is 1, 2 or 3. As a consequence of isolation of the vinyl group from the silicon atom with intervention of the group R.sup.1, the organosilane compound has good copolymerizability with other ethylenically unsaturated organic monomers.
