  • Patent number: 6969086
Abstract: An airbag device includes an airbag and an inflator disposed at a side of a base portion of the airbag for inflating the airbag. The airbag is inflated such that distal ends thereof extend away from the base side of the airbag. The airbag includes a left half airbag to be inflated at a front left of a vehicle occupant, and a right half airbag to be inflated at a front right of the vehicle occupant. The distal ends of the left half airbag and the right half airbag are spaced part from each other to form an empty space therebetween facing the vehicle occupant when the airbag is inflated.

  • Publication number: 20050212275
Abstract: An airbag apparatus receives an occupant's left breast by an expanded left airbag section and receives the right breast by a right airbag section. A void space of the expanded airbag opposes the lateral center of the occupant's breast. Both the left and right airbag sections expand smoothly and substantially evenly. The left and right airbag sections are folded firstly to obtain a first folded body elongated in the fore-and-aft direction and, subsequently, the distal sides from a joint belt, which connect the midsections in the expanding direction of the left and right airbag sections, are opened laterally apart from each other. The rear sides from the joint belt are folded so as to be reduced in width in the fore-and aft direction to obtain the second folded body, and then the lateral width is reduced by the third folding operation to obtain the final folded body.

  • Publication number: 20050194855
Abstract: An axial gap rotating electrical machine is provided with permanent magnets and cores in a rotor. The permanent magnets are oriented such that magnetization surfaces face in the circumferential direction of the rotor. The cores are arranged alternately with the permanent magnets in the circumferential direction of the rotor. The amount of magnetic flux on the outside in the radial direction of the rotor is made greater than the amount of magnetic flux on the inside in the radial direction of the rotor. As a result, the magnetic flux density at the rotor cores can be made substantially constant in the radial direction of the rotor and torque output with respect to the size of the permanent magnets is improved by preventing magnetic saturation of the cores.

  • Publication number: 20050179337
Abstract: An axial gap electric rotary machine includes a rotor and a stator which face each other with an axial gap therebetween. The rotor includes permanent magnets which are arranged with their magnetic poles spaced around the circumference of the rotor, with the magnetic poles of adjacent permanent magnets being opposite each other. The permanent magnets and rotor cores are alternately arranged around the circumference of the rotor. Consequently, north poles and south poles are alternately formed at a surface of the rotor facing the stator, and reluctance of a magnetic path which passes through a permanent magnet is larger than reluctance of a magnetic path which does not pass through the permanent magnet, whereby the functions of a reluctance type rotary machine and a permanent magnet synchronous machine are combined in a compact structure.

  • Publication number: 20050179336
Abstract: An axial gap electric rotary machine includes a rotor and a stator that face each other across an axial gap. The rotor is provided with salient poles and permanent magnets that are positioned separately around the circumference of the rotor. Accordingly, north poles and south poles are alternately formed on a surface of the rotor that faces the stator. The magnetic resistance of a magnetic path that passes through the permanent magnets is larger than the magnetic resistance of a magnetic path that does not pass through the permanent magnets. Accordingly, the axial gap electric rotary machine is able to function as a reluctance motor and as a permanent magnet synchronous motor using a single set of facing surfaces of the rotor and the stator, respectively.

  • Publication number: 20050110249
Abstract: An airbag and an airbag apparatus are provided which can absorb an impact to be applied to an occupant sufficiently. An airbag includes a right airbag section to be inflated at the right side ahead of the occupant, a left airbag section to be inflated at the left side ahead of the occupant, and a rear chamber communicating between the base ends of the right airbag section and the left airbag section. In a state in which the airbag is inflated, an extending member such as a tie panel does not exist between the tip portions of the right airbag section and the left airbag section, and a space formed between the tip portions of the bags opens toward the occupant. The left airbag section has a larger capacity having a larger lateral width in the inflated state.

  • Publication number: 20040183290
Abstract: An airbag includes a bag portion to be inflated at a location close to an occupant and a pressure sensor mounted on an inner surface of the bag portion. A harness is connected to the pressure sensor to extend along the inner surface of the bag portion. An airbag device includes the airbag and a gas generator for inflating the airbag. Accordingly, high-speed air flow from the gas generator does not affect the pressure sensor, and it is possible to detect the pressure precisely.

  • Patent number: 6777837
Abstract: A hybrid-vehicle drive unit supports a motor-generator with high precision, improving the efficiency of the motor-generator, and reducing the size of the motor-generator, independent of any influence of centering precision of the crank shaft and of deformation of the torque converter. According to the invention, a motor housing is disposed between a converter housing and an internal combustion engine, and a bearing is fitted to a lateral wall provided in a front portion of the motor housing. Rotor supporting members are independently supported by the bearing. Eccentric rotation of the crank shaft resulting from explosive vibrations of the engine is counteracted by two flex plates. Owing to a predetermined clearance, one of the rotor supporting members as a separate component is free from the influence of deformation of the torque converter.
