  • Patent number: 5072545
Abstract: A door glass weather strip mounted along a door opening or a door frame of a motor vehicle for sealing an end edge of a door glass when the door glass is closed, has a base portion to be mounted along the door opening or the door frame, and a seal wall to be pressed upward by the end edge of the door glass. The base portion and the seal wall form a hollow body. The seal wall is bent at a center in the widthwise direction of a vehicle body so as to have a L-shaped section. An outer half portion of the seal wall is formed thin and an inner half portion thereof is formed thicker than the outer half portion. An inner wall of the inner half portion is cut off at a root thereof to form a thin-walled root portion.

  • Patent number: 5050349
Abstract: A weather strip is provided having a base portion which is to be attached along a door opening, a tubular sealing portion composed of a seal wall which is pushed up by a peripheral edge of a door glass and side walls for connecting inner and outer ends of the seal wall to the base portion. A linear insert composed of a solid material such as solid rubber or synthetic resin is embedded in the corner defined by the connection of the seal wall to the outer side wall. When the seal wall is pushed by the peripheral edge of the door glass, deformation of the outer side wall provides excellent sealing properties. Furthermore, the insert of the invention limits outward movement of the door glass in response to pressures encountered when the motor vehicle is driven at high speed.

  • Patent number: 5035937
Abstract: A extruded weather strip having a trim (2) and a seal lip (4) is provided with a cutout (51,52) having a base side (42) of a length (L) and an edge side (41) of a length (G1, G2) smaller than that of the base side (41). The weather strip is placed in a mold with a portion of the trim (2) corresponding to the cutout (51, 52) bent in the shape of a desired corner, thereby expanding the cutout, and a molding material is injected into the mold to form a corner seal lip (61) in the cutout, integral with the seal lip 4. Therefore, even after storage in an unstressed condition, a crimp which would prevent conformance of the corner seal lip 61 will not be formed.

  • Patent number: 4998946
Abstract: A weather strip to be attached along a door opening of a body of a motor vehicle has a base portion and a tubular sealing portion projecting from an outer surface of the base portion. The tubular sealing portion has a folded end portion which is formed by pressing so as to bond and close an end of the tubular sealing portion. The folded end portion has a nearly L-shaped cross section, and is composed of a bonded portion which covers the base portion, and an extension portion which nearly perpendicularly extends from one of side ends of the bonding portion. The side surface of the extension portion is a prolongation of the side surface of the unfolded tubular sealing portion, which faces the body surface of the motor vehicle when the weather strip is attached to the motor vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4979333
Abstract: A weather strip is provided to be attached along a door opening of a vehicle body. The weather strip has a main portion to come into pressure contact with a peripheral edge of a door frame or a door glass when a door is closed and an end portion connected to an end of the main portion, which is to be partially pressed by an end portion of a door weather strip when the door is closed. The end portion has a thickness which gradually decreases towards a lower end thereof. The lower end of one portion of the end portion, which is to be pressed by the end portion of the door weather strip is thinner than that of the other portion of the end portion like the edge of a blade. When the door is closed, the thinner lower end of the end portion is pressed by the end portion of the door weather strip. At this time, no space remains between the vehicle body and the door weather strip thereby maintaining desirable sealing performance.

  • Patent number: 4918867
Abstract: An opening trim which is mounted to a body flange of a door mounting opening portion of an automobile, and provided with a U-like cross-section and grasping lips on the inside of the U-like cross-section. The opening trim comprises a portion intended to grasp a thick portion of the body flange and a usual portion continuing to the portion intended to grasp the thick portion, and both portions are molded integrally by means of extrusion molding. The inclination angle of the grasping lips at least in one side of the portion intended to grasp the thick portion with respect to the flange inserting surface is made smaller than that in the usual portion. Thereby the flange pushing resisting force in the portion intended to grasp the thick portion is about equal with that in the usual portion.

  • Patent number: 4872288
Abstract: A sealing structure around a door of an automobile has a weather strip of a uniform width, which is installed in a vertical side of a door frame of a front door. In a center pillar of the automobile is formed a projecting portion to come in contact with the weather strip when the front door is closed. A sealing surface of the projecting portion inclines so as to gradually project towards the weather strip from the position close to the belt line to the position close to the roof side. This results in the gap between the door frame and the center pillar being gradually decreased upwards so as to gradually increase the quantity of flection of the weather strip upwards. This sealing structure maintains sufficient sealing property with a door closing force hardly increased if the front door is drawn out while the automobile is running at a high speed.
