Patent number: 5407628Abstract: A method for forming a molded portion composed of solid rubber onto an end of an extruded weather strip having a base portion composed of solid rubber and a lip-shaped sealing portion composed of sponge rubber and extending from the base portion. The method includes the steps of inserting the end of the extruded weather strip into a cavity of a mold, the cavity having a cross-sectional shape identical with that of the end of the extruded weather strip. The method further includes injecting a molding material into the cavity from a gate of the mold while throttling the molding material flowing to the end of the lip-shaped sealing portion of the extruded weather strip by a protruding portion protruding into a passageway of the cavity leading to the end of the lip-shaped sealing portion of the extruded weather strip at a position close thereto.Type: GrantFiled: April 5, 1993Date of Patent: April 18, 1995Assignee: Toyoda Gosei Co., LtdInventors: Masahiro Nozaki, Toshiyuki Sumi

Patent number: 5366267Abstract: A weather strip for a sliding sun roof of a motor vehicle has a base portion which is attached to the peripheral edge of the sliding sun roof, and a tubular sealing portion to be contacted with a frame portion defining a roof panel opening when the sliding sun roof is closed. A continuous single lip extends from the tubular sealing portion. A front portion of the continuous single lip, corresponding to a front end of the sliding sun roof, has a predetermined uniform length sufficient for its top end to reach the frame portion, thereby serving as a seal lip. Left and right side portions and a rear portion of the continuous single lip, which respectively correspond to left and right ends and a rear end of the sliding sun roof have a uniform length shorter than that of the front portion thereof, thereby serving as a drip lip. This continuous single lip is made by continuously forming a single lip having a uniform length enough for its top end to reach the frame portion of the roof panel.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 1993Date of Patent: November 22, 1994Assignee: Toyoda Gosei Co., Ltd.Inventor: Masahiro Nozaki

Patent number: 5304409Abstract: A weather strip fixed in place by pressure against an adhesive tape attachment where the adhesive ability of the tape is increased, especially at points of high stress. The fixing portion of the weather strip includes hardened portions. The hardened portions are harder than the remaining body of the fixing portion material and are positioned so as to extend along the edge of the adhesive tape or where needed to properly assist in the transfer of sealing pressure from the fixing portion onto the adhesive tape. When the fixing portion is pressed in place, the pressure is more effectively transmitted to the desired area of the adhesive tape so that the fixing portion is more firmly adhered.Type: GrantFiled: March 4, 1992Date of Patent: April 19, 1994Assignee: Toyoda Gosei Co., Ltd.Inventor: Masahiro Nozaki

Patent number: 5258157Abstract: A method for joining extruded weather strip portions by molding and the resulting weather strip for a motor vehicle. Ends of the extruded weather strip portions, each of which has a trim portion from which a plurality of flange retaining lips project obliquely inwardly, are placed in spaced side by side relation. A core plate having thick portions which are longitudinally spaced apart from each other are inserted into ends of the trim portions of the extruded weather strips so that the thick portions press the flange retaining lips against opposed inner surfaces of the ends of the trim portions, the ends of the extruded weather strip portions together with the core plate are positioned in a cavity of a mold, and a molding material is injected into the cavity of the mold to form a molded joining portion which joins the extruded weather strip portions. Then, the mold is opened and the core plate is removed from the molded joining portion.Type: GrantFiled: April 11, 1991Date of Patent: November 2, 1993Assignee: Toyoda Gosei Co., Ltd.Inventors: Masahiro Nozaki, Masafumi Moriyama

Patent number: 5240664Abstract: The present invention is directed to a door weather strip in which the corner portions thereof are integrally formed with straight portions thereof. In order to obtain a predetermined sealing interference, the cross sectional shape of the corner portions of hollow sealing portion and the lip seal of the weather strip is arranged to be longer than that in the straight portion. Alternatively, the sealing portion is raised as to have a predetermined shape when the corners are formed. Said formed shapes are solidified by vulcanization after the weather strip has been plastically deformed before the vulcanization.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 1992Date of Patent: August 31, 1993Assignee: Toyoda Gosei Co., Ltd.Inventors: Keizo Hayashi, Masami Yamada, Masahiro Nozaki
