  • Patent number: 4429050
Abstract: A method for the simultaneous immunochemical assay of trace components in a sample involving competitively reacting the antigens or antibodies in a sample and labeled antigens or labeled antibodies for limited binding sites. The labels are spectral sensitizing dyes. The reaction products are contacted with silver halide and exposed to light having wavelengths corresponding to the absorption spectra of the spectral sensitizing dyes.

  • Patent number: 4414325
Abstract: The amount of enzyme is determined by reacting an enzyme to be measured with a synthetic substrate having at least one structure to be specifically contacted with the enzyme and at least one spectral sensitizer structure, bringing either the reaction product having the spectral sensitizer structure or the unreacted synthetic substrate into contact with a silver halide emulsion layer, exposing the same to light of a spectral sensitizing wavelength region corresponding to the spectral sensitizer structure, developing the silver halide, and then measuring the optical density of developed silver and/or colored dye.

  • Patent number: 4412951
Abstract: A reagent for measuring a lipase activity comprised of a higher fatty acid ester having the general formula ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is a straight chain alkyl group; R.sup.2 is hydrogen or a halogen atom; R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 are independently a nitro group, an alkylsulfonyl group, a substituted alkylsulfonyl group or a trifluoromethyl group; G is an --SO.sub.3 M group or a group having at least one --SO.sub.3 M where M represents sodium or potassium, or, when R.sup.4 has a sulfonic acid group, may be a hydrogen atom; and Q is hydrogen, a halogen atom, an alkyl group, an alkoxy-substituted alkyl group, an alkoxy group, an alkoxy-substituted alkoxy group, a sulfonamido group, a sulfamoyl group, a carbonamido group, a carbamoyl group, or an alkylsulfonyl group. The reagent is capable of releasing a dye on enzymatic hydrolysis by the action of lipase.

  • Patent number: 4362813
Abstract: A light-sensitive silver halide photographic emulsion characterized by containing a combination of at least one sensitizing dye represented by formula (I) and at least one sensitizing dye represented by formula (II). ##STR1## A silver halide color photographic light-sensitive element comprising a support having thereon at least one light-sensitive emulsion layer comprising a sensitizing dye represented by formula (I) and a sensitizing dye represented by formula (II) is also described.

  • Patent number: 4326600
Abstract: An outboard motor includes a cowling with a cavity that receives a carburetor that supplies the engine with an air/fuel mixture. The carburetor has an air intake port. An air intake passage connects to this port, and bends partway around the carburetor. A resonance chamber communicates with the air intake passage and faces the carburetor to attenuate the noise from the carburetor intake port.

  • Patent number: 4267016
Abstract: A water-soluble polyvinyl alcohol fiber is obtained by subjecting to the conventional dry or wet spinning process, a solution prepared by adding to a polyvinyl alcohol aqueous solution, an adduct composed of a polyamide condensation product and 1-halogen-2,3-epoxy propane or ethylene glycol diglycidyl ether in the range from 5 to 50 percent by weight based upon the polyvinyl alcohol-after the solution's pH has been adjusted to 2 to 7. The resulting fiber, which has not been subjected to any heat treatment at a temperature above 120.degree. C. is blended with a fibrous material to make a fibrous sheet such as paper or non-woven fabric. By virtue of a subsequent heat-treatment, said polyvinyl alcohol fiber becomes boiling water-resistant; as a result, the wet strength of the fibrous sheet is significantly increased.
