  • Patent number: 5953583
Abstract: A thin-film transistor of the reversed stagger type is provided with a gate electrode, first and second gate insulating films, a semiconductor layer, separated contact layers, and source electrodes and drain electrodes, all of which are stacked on a substrate. Upon manufacturing the thin-film transistor of this type, a gap section is pattered in a single contact-material layer. In this case, the contact-material layer is patterned by carrying out etching by the use of the source electrode and drain electrode as direct masks or by the use of a resist pattern that was used for forming the respective electrodes. Upon patterning a gap section in the contact-material layer between the source electrode and the drain electrode, no dedicated resist pattern is required; therefore, it is possible to reduce the number of the processes as compared with conventional manufacturing methods.

  • Patent number: 5771083
Abstract: A liquid crystal display device incorporating an active matrix substrate having an inter-layer insulating film between a pixel electrode and gate and source signal lines. In this liquid crystal display device, the source signal line has a double-layer structure of an upper-layer line and a lower-layer line, but the upper-layer line is eliminated at the intersection of the gate signal line and the source signal line. This structure prevents a decrease in the thickness of the inter-layer insulating layer on the intersection of the gate signal line and the source signal line.

  • Patent number: 5745201
Abstract: An object of the invention is to facilitate identifying the display color of each pixel during a test process and to apply a correction to a defective switching device in accordance with a test criterion established for each display color. On one transparent substrate, there are formed gate wiring and source wirings intersecting at right angles to each other so that insulation therebetween is maintained, and a pixel electrode and a TFT device are formed for each pixel, thus constructing one substrate member. On another transparent substrate, there is formed a counter electrode facing the pixel electrodes, and identifying means for identifying the display color of each pixel is formed on the side opposite from the side where the counter electrode is formed, the identifying means then being covered with a light-blocking member, thus constructing the another substrate member. The light-blocking member contains openings formed therethrough in portions facing the pixel electrodes.

  • Patent number: 5583166
Abstract: An efficient method of obtaining polymer particles by evaporating an organic solvent while maintaining a solution of a polymer in the organic solvent in contact with polymer particles, using a simple apparatus and a simple procedure. The polymer particles (powder) produced by the method have a small particle diameter, a high bulk density, a small amount of residual solvent, and are thus excellent in quality. The method includes introducing the organic solvent solution of the polymer into a particle producing zone which does not substantially contain steam, wherein an atmosphere is maintained in which the organic solvent is vaporizable and the particles are stirred. The organic solvent is evaporated, while maintaining the solution in contact with the polymer particles. Additionally a breaker is used in combination with a mixer; a poor solvent is employed; polymer particles are recycled; or a horizontal particle producing vessel is utilized.
