  • Patent number: 9408116
Abstract: There is provided a method in a radio base station for handling cell reselection for a user equipment, UE, in a wireless communications network. The UE is associated with a first cell of the radio base station, which first cell has a first frequency. The wireless communications network comprises a second cell having a second frequency, which second cell has at least partly overlapping coverage with the first cell, and a third cell having the second frequency, which third cell has at least partly overlapping coverage with the first cell. The radio base station transmits cell reselection priority values to the UE, wherein the cell reselection priority values comprise a first priority value for the second cell, and a second priority value for the third cell.

  • Patent number: 9380590
Abstract: An interference problem for UE retransmissions at the end of a Sequence Frame Number pattern, in a system wherein a macro base station (12) employs Almost Blank Subframes (ABS) to avoid interference with a micro base station (16), is avoided by first recognizing that an ABS pattern will reset at the end of a SFN period. In some embodiments, in response to this recognition, the micro base station (16) may command (108) a UE to alter a transmission to the micro base station (12), to improve the probability of accurate reception—such as by increasing its transmit power during the relevant time slots, or utilizing a more robust data correction encoding scheme. In other embodiments, in response to recognizing the change in the ABS pattern, the macro base station (12) may schedule (208) other UE to a PRB where they cause lower interference, or may avoid scheduling macro cell UEs in the same time slot.

  • Patent number: 9351244
Abstract: The present invention relates to a user equipment and a radio base station, and to related methods of enabling the radio base station to affect an energy saving in the system during a connection between the user equipment and the radio base station according to a priority level of the energy saving. The method comprises the step of detecting (210) a trigger received via a user interface of the user equipment, where the trigger is associated with the priority level of the energy saving in the system. It also comprises transmitting (220) an indicator of the priority level to the radio base station, allowing the radio base station to affect the energy saving in the system during the connection according to the priority level, by configuring different user or system related parameters.

  • Patent number: 9344943
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for adapting thresholds for measurement triggering and measurement report triggering are disclosed. An example method, suitable for implementation in a base station, begins with monitoring (510, 610) a cell load for the cell served by the base station. The method continues with the determining (520, 630) of a first signal threshold for the serving cell to be used for triggering neighbor cell measurements by at least a first mobile terminal, or a second signal threshold for the serving cell to be used for triggering reporting of neighbor cell measurements by the first mobile terminal, or both, where said determining is based on the monitored cell load. The determined first signal threshold or the determined second signal threshold, or both, are transmitted (530, 640) to the first mobile terminal.

  • Patent number: 9282494
Abstract: A radio network node and method for improved control of handover decisions of a User Equipment (UE) in a wireless communications network. The UE is in a served cell and is moving towards a neighboring cell. The network node obtains neighboring cell characteristics and determines a mobility threshold based on the obtained neighboring cell characteristics. The handover decisions of the UE to the neighboring cell are then controlled based on the determined mobility threshold.

  • Publication number: 20160057684
Abstract: Methods for changing a carrier type from a first carrier type to a second carrier type are disclosed. An example method may be implemented in one or more nodes of a cellular system that includes a plurality of cells that can each be selectively operated with either a first carrier type or a second carrier type, one of the first and second carrier types either having substantially fewer reference symbols than the other or lacking a control structure supported by the other, or both. The example method begins with determining (800) that a cell or cells should be switched from the first carrier type to a second carrier type. This may be done based on for example, an evaluation of UE performance criteria, e.g., whether one or more UEs are capable of operating on the second carrier type and/or whether one or more UEs may receive a higher quality of service from the second carrier type.

  • Patent number: 8879492
Abstract: A method in a first base station (105) for handling a downlink transmission is provided. The first base station (105) serves a first user equipment (120). The first base station (105) defines a subframe in which the first base station (105) is to avoid interfering a downlink radio channel between a second base station (115) and a second user equipment (125). The second user equipment (125) is located in an extended range of the second base station (120). The first base station (105) performs, in the defined subframe, a downlink transmission to the first user equipment (120). The first base station (105) receives, from the second base station (115), an indication of an interference caused by the performed downlink transmission on the downlink radio channel. The first base station (105) adjusts a further downlink transmission to be performed by the first base station (105) based on the indication.
