  • Patent number: 9424648
Abstract: A method and system for device detection in a 2D medical image. In order to account for shape variation of a 3D object in a 2D imaging plane, a hierarchical tree-structured array of trained classifiers is used to detect a 3D object, such as a pigtail catheter in a 2D medical image, such as a fluoroscopic image. The hierarchical tree-structured array of trained classifiers increases a dimensionality of the search space with each hierarchical level, and as the search space is increased, the classification is split into object sub-classes using trained classifiers independently trained for each sub-class.

  • Patent number: 9384413
Abstract: In a method and apparatus for automatic or semi-automatic segmentation of a 3D image data set, acquired by a medical imaging apparatus, of an examination region that includes an organ, the 3D image data set is provided to a computer/processor, which is also provided with information with designating the type of organ imaged in the examination region. The 3D image data set is automatically segmented in the computer/processor using a model-based segmentation algorithm, wherein the designated type of organ is used as a basis of the model. The 3D data set is also automatically or semi-automatically segmented using a greyscale value-based segmentation algorithm. At least one of the segmentation results is displayed.

  • Publication number: 20150223773
Abstract: A method and system for determining an angulation of a C-arm image acquisition system for a cardiac intervention is disclosed. A 3D ultrasound image including a cardiac region is received. The 3D ultrasound image is registered to a 3D coordinate system of the C-arm image acquisition system. A cardiac structure of interest is detected in the registered 3D ultrasound image. An angulation of the C-arm image acquisition system is determined based on the detected structure of interest in the registered 3D ultrasound image.

  • Patent number: 9058664
Abstract: A method for fusing 2D fluoroscopic images with 2D angiographic images for real-time interventional procedure guidance includes using a 2-dimensional angiographic image to detect injection of a contrast agent into an anatomical structure, where the contrast agent first appears in a detected image frame, subtracting a background image from the detected image frame and binarizing the subtracted image frame to segment the anatomical structure from the subtracted image frame, registering the segmented anatomical structure with a predefined shape model of the anatomical structure to generate an anatomical mask, generating an anatomical probability map from the anatomical mask using intensity information from the subtracted image frame, where the anatomical probability map expresses a probability of a pixel in the subtracted image frame belonging to the anatomical structure, and fusing the angiographic image with one or more subsequently acquired 2-dimensional fluoroscopic images of the anatomical structure using t
