  • Publication number: 20020024205
Abstract: An occupant restraint assembly and for a motor vehicle operates to sense the tension forces on a seat belt to detect the presence of a human occupant or a child restraint seat. A sensor attached to the seat belt measures tension forces. The sensor is mounted in line with the seat belt. A strain gauge senses tension on the seat belt. An additional embodiment of the sensor includes three prongs attached to a common beam that allow the sensor to be slipped onto the seat belt without modification to the seat belt. A middle prong includes the strain gauge to sense movement relative to outside prongs. The seat belt threads over the outside prongs and under the middle prong such that tension on the seat belt forces the middle prong transversely to tension exerted on the seat belt.

  • Publication number: 20020023258
Abstract: A method for remote management of network elements is disclosed. The method comprises communicating existing software version information from one or more network elements, checking the existing software version information against current software version information, and provisioning those network elements containing outdated software versions by communicating a current software version to those network elements. In addition, the communication of the existing software version information from the one or more network elements and the communication of the current software versions to the network elements may be accomplished using a simple network management protocol (SNMP).

  • Publication number: 20010034754
Abstract: A customer premises gateway (CPG) for providing access and control of one or more devices located at a customer premise and coupled to the CPG through one or more physical interfaces is disclosed. The CPG comprises one or more processors in communication with each other. The one or more processors are programmed for associating an application programming interface (API) specific to a particular device with an Internetworking protocol, Transport protocol, software driver, and hardware driver. The processors are also programmed for querying a particular device and retrieving API specification information from the device using the API specific to the device, and generating a Markup-Language-type page for the device in accordance with the API specification information for the device for displaying accessible or controllable parameters of the device. The CPG also includes memory for storing the API specification information corresponding to the one or more devices.

  • Patent number: 6223805
Abstract: The present invention relates to a novel method for forming cast metal matrix composite bodies. In particular, the present invention relates to a novel method for forming or recycling metal matrix composite bodies so as to render such bodies in a condition for casting or recasting as a cast metal matrix composite body. Specifically, a scrap metal matrix composite body and preferably a scrap cast metal matrix composite body is placed into a crucible, optionally along with unreinforced matrix metal and/or virgin metal matrix composite material. Whether the scrap and/or virgin materials are placed into the crucible in solid or molten form, the contents of the crucible are ultimately rendered molten to form a composite melt.

  • Patent number: 5935261
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for detecting handling damage in a direct access storage device (DASD). The DASD has at least one disk mounted for rotation and a transducer mounted for movement across tracks recorded on the at least one disk. Each of the tracks being divided into a plurality of sectors. A handling damage analysis test is performed within a predetermined damage zone on the at least one disk. Test results from the handling damage analysis test are compared with at least one threshold value. An error code is outputted responsive to compared test results being greater than the at least one threshold value. A microcode routine is stored in a random access memory (RAM) in the DASD. The microcode routine is performed for detecting handling damage in the direct access storage device (DASD) upon installation. An error code is outputted to a host interface responsive to compared test results greater than a threshold value.

  • Patent number: 5862890
Abstract: Axial and rotational movement of the torque tube foot of an aircraft's disc brake assembly is restrained to substantially dampen or eliminate the short interval high frequency vibration previously experienced on brake application. Restraining means is employed to restrain the torque tube foot and includes an annular flange member mounted to the axle by an axle sleeve and positioned adjacent a first side of the torque tube foot to stop lateral movement of the torque tube foot in the direction of the first side. Wheel spacer means is also provided containing a cylindrical passage for mounting the wheel spacer means to the axle opposite the annular flange member and on the opposite side of the torque tube foot.

  • Patent number: 5855955
Abstract: This invention relates generally to a novel directed metal oxidation process which is utilized to produce self-supporting bodies. In some of the more specific aspects of the invention, a parent metal (e.g., a parent metal vapor) is induced to react with at least one solid oxidant-containing material to result in the directed growth of a reaction product which is formed from a reaction between the parent metal and the solid oxidant-containing material. The inventive process can be utilized to form bodies having substantially homogeneous compositions, graded compositions, and macrocomposite bodies. In a preferred embodiment, a substance comprising a filler material and a solid oxidant, preferably an admixture of particulates, is coated onto at least a portion of the solid oxidant-containing material. Such a technique is particularly advantageous for forming relatively thick reaction product layers which might not otherwise develop to the desired thickness using the original "directed growth" embodiment.

  • Patent number: 5698910
Abstract: A core made of a soft magnetic material is supported to be movable, and a permanent magnet is mounted to move with the core. At least one electrically conductive drive coil is located adjacent the core and one pole of the permanent magnet. A casing, made of a soft magnetic material, is located adjacent to the drive. An electrically conductive sense coil is located adjacent one end of the core, such that when electrical current is passed through the drive coil in a first direction, the core is moved in a first direction and an electrical property associated with the sense coil is altered, thereby indicating the position of the core, and when electrical current is passed through the drive coil in a second direction, the core is moved in a second direction and an electrical property associated with the sense coil is altered, thereby indicating the position of the core.

  • Patent number: 4102869
Abstract: Linear polyester resins, terminated with carboxyl groups, and suitable for inclusion in heat-curable fluid coating compositions, are advantageously modified by capping a minor fraction of the carboxyl groups with a hydrocarbyl glycidyl ether. The capped resins produce water-reducible formulations that exhibit a fast curing rate and excellent adhesion when formulated with hexamethoxymethylmelamine, for example. Such fluid coating compositions may be used as industrial coatings and coil-coatings.
