  • Publication number: 20110178813
Abstract: An integrated continuing medical education and treatment system is implemented as a system, a process, and an article of manufacture. A treatment goal memory stores clinical treatment goal data associated with at least one or more disease. An educational memory stores instructional education data associated with at least one disease and a treatment delta; the treatment delta is the difference between a clinical treatment goal data and corresponding data relevant to a disease of inquiry. A processor is adapted to receive a healthcare provider's selection of a disease of inquiry and electronic medical record data relevant to any disease of inquiry. The clinical treatment goal data may be queried for a disease matching a disease of inquiry. The goal data is compared with the electronic medical record data to determine a treatment delta. The continuing medical education data is selected based on the disease of inquiry and the treatment delta.

  • Publication number: 20100237018
Abstract: A system and method for purifying an aqueous contaminated fluid from colloidal contaminants using a closed-loop feedback control system are disclosed. Contaminated fluid flows into a mixer and mixed with a purifying agent, such as diatomaceous earth, to facilitate metathesis reaction between the purifying agent and the contaminants. The purifying agent entraps the contaminants, and is subsequently removed in a separator into sediments. An estimation of the amount of the purifying agent to dispense is performed using pre-defined equations or look-up tables stored in the database, including relationship between the concentration of contaminants in the fluid and the concentration of the added purifying agent. An automated feedback control is applied to fine tune the purification process into compliance with regulations. High accuracy of measurements is ensured by selecting the same material for both the purifying agent and the trapping medium of analyzers, and additionally by the design of the analyzers.

  • Publication number: 20100179454
Abstract: An approach to monitoring, evaluation, diagnosis, treatment or conditioning of animals such as horses does not require use of restrictive equipment such as treadmills or force plates and that can provide either or both of more or less immediate or continuous processing of data to perform the monitoring or diagnosis. One or more wireless sensors are attached to the animal, for example, to measure motion-related parameter associated with one or more parts of the animal. Sensor data is received from the sensors and processed to identify a characteristic of the motion of the animal, such as a quality of gait. The sensor data can also be used to avoid injury to the animal and/or the rider, and to verify the identity of an animal.

  • Patent number: 7727772
Abstract: A fluid contamination analyzer has a sample cell containing a trapping medium capable of trapping contaminants suspended in the aqueous fluid flowing through the trapping medium, a light source for illuminating the trapping medium to cause the entrapped contaminants generate a secondary radiation indicative of the identity and quantity of the contaminants, and a photodetector for receiving the secondary radiation. The fluid contamination analyzer has a reflective shell in the form of an ellipsoid extending at least partially around the sample cell and the detector, the sample cell being positioned at one of the focal points of the ellipsoid, and the photodetector at the other point of the ellipsoid to receive the secondary radiation reflected by the reflective shell.

  • Patent number: 7721022
Abstract: The invention classifies volumes (e.g., file systems or LUNs) of a data storage system according to application requirements and allocates space for the volumes on storage devices (e.g., hard disk drives) accordingly. A person such as an IT administrator configures the volumes specifying size, type (e.g., file system or SAN LUN), and priority (e.g., high, medium, low, or archive). The host schedules I/O requests to the storage devices in priority queues using the volume definition to match the application requirements and reduce storage seek time between volumes of different priorities. The host also allocates high performance bands of the storage devices to high performance applications and lower performance bands to lower performance applications. In this manner, the data storage system places data on the band of the storage device that best supports its performance needs.

Abstract: A technique is provided for resolving a reportable condition. Upon detection of a reportable condition on a processor-based medical system, machine data is provided to a knowledge engine. One or more identified solutions are received from the knowledge engine and implemented on the processor-based medical system. The one or more solutions are verified as they are implemented to determine if the currently implemented solution resolves the reportable condition. Routines implementing some or all of the technique may be provided on a processor-based system or on a machine-readable medium.

  • Publication number: 20100082282
Abstract: Provided are a method, system, and article of manufacture wherein a determination is made of a subset of all possible interoperable combinations of components of a computing system, wherein the components comprise selected elements of the computing system. One or more testing criteria are stored, wherein a testing criteria provides indications of characteristics of one or more of the components of the computing system. A selection is made of a number of interoperable combinations of the components from the subset of interoperable combinations of the components, based on the stored one or more testing criteria. The selected interoperable combinations are tested, wherein the selected interoperable combinations are fewer in number than the subset of interoperable combinations.
