  • Publication number: 20180328300
Abstract: Methods, systems and devices for evaluating incoming air to an engine for concentrations of explosive or combustible gases, and shutting down the engine to prevent an overspeed condition when elevated concentrations are detected. In some embodiments engine shutdown may be achieved conventionally via an electronic kill signal and in emergency conditions by the shutoff of incoming air to an air intake. The ability to make decisions based on explosive gas concentrations and species and the use of networking to allow additional systems to take action even before explosive gases reach said other valve-sensor devices can provide additional safety.

  • Patent number: 10028492
Abstract: Operating at constant depth, various embodiments are provided equipped with automatic depth-control mechanisms in dynamic devices such as lures and carriers that acquire and maintain a constant target depth when pulled through a medium such as water. The depth-control mechanism incorporates a mechanical pressure measurement of depth using a bladder with changing dimensionality and mechanical coupling to a variable angle dive plane. The measured pressure is compared with the target depth pressure causing the dive plane angle to adjust and converge to an adjustable target depth with forward motion due to retrieval or trolling. The dive plane extension is optionally a variable angle lip or bill protruding from the front of the lure or a pectoral fin-like configuration. Multi-purpose carriers are provided that can perform various underwater sensing and measuring tasks. Included are systems and methods for using a lure or platform equipped with a depth-controlling device.

  • Patent number: 9939579
Abstract: Monolithic optical structures include a plurality of layer with each layer having an isolated optical pathway confined within a portion of the layer. The monolithic optical structure can be used as an optical fiber preform. Alternatively or additionally, the monolithic optical structure can include integrated optical circuits within one or more layers of the structure. Monolithic optical structures can be formed by performing multiple passes of a substrate through a flowing particle stream. The deposited particles form an optical material following consolidation. Flexible optical fibers include a plurality of independent light channels extending along the length of the optical fiber. The fibers can be pulled from an appropriate preform.
