Patent number: 8640353Abstract: A ride height gauge includes a chassis engaging member biased relative to a base member via springs. Lowering an RC car chassis onto the chassis engaging member causes the chassis engaging member to lower until the car's wheels touch a support surface on either side of the base member. The chassis engaging member's lowered position is displayed on measurement columns that measure the height of the chassis engaging member from the support surface, which can be used to determine the ride height of the vehicle. The measurement columns at opposite ends of the vehicle allow the user to simultaneously measure the ride height at either end of the vehicle without repositioning of the vehicle.Type: GrantFiled: November 1, 2011Date of Patent: February 4, 2014Inventor: Harold Michael Burton

Patent number: 8428975Abstract: An insurance product model comprising insurance policy metadata is provided (101) in a computer memory. The insurance policy metadata may comprise, at least in part, data that describes information that comprises a given corresponding insurance policy. A computer then serves to substantively interpret (102) this insurance product model to facilitate obtaining supplemental policy-specific data. The supplemental policy-specific data and the insurance policy metadata comprise separate and discrete data models and may, if desired, be stored (103) separately from one another. So configured, these teachings further support using (104) the insurance product model and the supplemental policy-specific data to facilitate an insurance-related action.Type: GrantFiled: December 3, 2010Date of Patent: April 23, 2013Assignee: Guidewire Software, Inc.Inventors: James Michael Burton, Benjamin Buendia Eloy, Kenneth William Branson

Patent number: 8373749Abstract: A vision system for viewing the end face of product (64) mounted in a machine and which in use produces measurements relating to the area of the end face and of at least one constituent part of the product which is visible in the said end face. The system comprises means for illuminating a region containing the end face and scanning (78) means for producing a video signal from an image of the illuminated region. The region is illuminated consecutively using first one (50) and then the other (58, 60) of two strobed light sources.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 2007Date of Patent: February 12, 2013Assignee: AEW Delford Systems LimitedInventor: Colin Michael Burton

Patent number: 8116554Abstract: A vision system for viewing the end face of product mounted in a machine which in use produces measurements relating to the area of the end face and of at least one constituent part of the product which is visible in the end face. The end face is illuminated by light of two different wavelengths. One wavelength illuminates an area which contains both the end face and surrounding parts of the machine, while light of the other wavelength from a laser source produces a pattern of parallel spaced apart lines of light of the other wavelength. The parallel lines cross the end face at a specific given angle. Gating excludes video signal of parallel lines in the image which are not at the specific angle to leave a residual video signal corresponding to the end face. A full color video signal of the field of view is gated by the mask.Type: GrantFiled: June 21, 2006Date of Patent: February 14, 2012Assignee: AEW Delford Systems LimitedInventor: Colin Michael Burton

Patent number: 8074685Abstract: A one-way valve allows air to be drawn from a collapsible, flexible, airtight bag using a vacuum source. When the vacuum source is removed, the one-way valve prevents air from re-entering the bag. The valve assembly comprises a valve base attached to a bag wall and having an opening, a cap base coupled to the valve base, a flapper held in place by the valve base and cap base, and a cap connected to the cap base by a living hinge. When the cap is snapped onto the cap base after bag evacuation, the cap maintains the flapper in a position so that the opening in the valve base stays closed, preventing the admission of ambient air into the evacuated bag.Type: GrantFiled: April 3, 2009Date of Patent: December 13, 2011Assignee: Illinois Tool Works, Inc.Inventors: Martin Calvo, Linh Pham, Michael Burton

Patent number: 8028787Abstract: To provide a work machine in which traveling devices and an implement device can be operated by common operating levers, wherein switching operation is easy and a changeover is easily confirmed. Inside a cab of the work machine, there are provided travel pedals, with which the traveling devices can be operated, and operating levers, with which the traveling devices and the implement device can be operated. A changeover switch is provided on a console positioned in the vicinity of one side of an operating sheet. The changeover switch switches over between a traveling mode, in which traveling operation is possible by the operating levers, and a work mode, in which implement operation is possible by the operating levers.Type: GrantFiled: August 29, 2006Date of Patent: October 4, 2011Assignee: Caterpillar S.A.R.L.Inventors: Eiji Akahane, Christopher Michael Burton, Nobumi Toyoura, Shigeru Kojima, Masayuki Takano

Patent number: 7709223Abstract: A method of detecting ?-D-ribofuranosidase activity in bacterial samples includes the step of incubating a sample to allow bacterial growth in the presence of chromogenic ?-D-ribofuranosidase substrate, the cleavage products of which produce an indicator, for instance observable visually. The substrate may be incorporated into solid growth media such as agar. It is of particular utility for detecting bacteria from the genera Yersinia, Shigella, Vibrio, and species Corynebacterium diphtheriae and Arcanobacterium haemolytica. The substrate may be a catechol compound, or an indoxyl compound.Type: GrantFiled: April 17, 2008Date of Patent: May 4, 2010Inventor: Michael Burton

Patent number: 7531646Abstract: This invention provides a method of detecting enzyme activity on a solid medium. The enzyme substrate has a chromogenic portion comprising a catechol residue, in which a derivitising moiety is linked to the aromatic ring of the catechol via a bond, and an enzyme cleavable group which is attached via an ester or ether linkage to the oxygen atom derived from a hydroxyl group of the catechol residue. If the enzyme substrate contacts an enzyme capable of cleaving the enzyme cleavable groups and the cleaved compound contacts a chelatable metal ion, a substantially non-diffusable coloured precipitate is formed.Type: GrantFiled: October 24, 2002Date of Patent: May 12, 2009Inventor: Michael Burton

Publication number: 20080193959Abstract: This invention provides new methods for detecting enzyme activity using enzyme substrates comprising an enzyme cleavable portion and a chromogenic portion. The enzyme cleavable portion is a ?-D-ribofuranosyl group and the chromogenic portion forms a detectable indicator following enzyme cleavage. In one aspect of this invention the chromogenic ?-D-ribofuranoside substrate forms a coloured substantially non-diffusable indicator. A second aspect of this invention provides novel chromogenic ?-D-ribofuranosides.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 17, 2008Publication date: August 14, 2008Inventor: Michael Burton
