  • Patent number: 8152814
Abstract: A tool for separating components of a modular prosthesis includes an upper and lower body, each defining opposing bills at one end that are sized to fit in juxtaposed relation within an initial gap between the components. The upper body is provided with a handle so that the tool may be manually held by the surgeon with the opposing bills in position in the prosthesis. The tool includes a jack assembly disposed between the upper and lower bodies of the tool that is configured to be driven into an extended position, gradually separating the upper and lower bodies, and consequently exerting a separation force on the prosthesis components through the bills of the tool. The jack assembly is driven by a threaded actuator rod that bears against one element of the jack assembly as the actuator rod is rotated within a threaded bore in one of the bodies of the tool.

  • Publication number: 20120005904
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for cutting a material, especially with low material speed and high cutting torque. In some embodiments, the apparatus is a hand-held device for quietly cutting through an orthopedic cast with little or no generation of debris. In yet other embodiments, there is a method for automatically advancing material past a shearing surface, such that the shearing action occurs at about the same velocity as the advancement. In yet other embodiments, there is a device for cutting material between a foot and a sharp edge, with the bottom of the foot being under the sharp edge to protect the skin of the patient.

  • Patent number: 7384267
Abstract: Data representative of operation of biomedical equipment in a medical facility is collected and stored in a centralized database. The information may be collected manually during the life of the equipment, or automatically by connection to the equipment. The data references equipment types, manufacturer, departments, locations, and other relevant information for the equipment. Based upon the collected and stored information, parameters representative of possible training needs is analyzed and reported. The parameters may include error, breakdowns, and the like. Detailed reports delivered to the medical institution may thus provide a basis for planning training to enhance performance and utilization of the equipment.

  • Patent number: 7141067
Abstract: An intercalary implant has two stem members and a collar. One stem member includes a stem portion to be received in the intramedullary canal of a native end portion of a long bone and a threaded male portion to be outside of the intramedullary canal. The second stem member also includes a stem portion to be received in the intramedullary canal of the opposite native end portion of the long bone. The second stem member has a spacer portion and a shoulder to be outside of the intramedullary canal. The collar has an annular base portion with an opening and a cylindrical female threaded portion. When assembled, collar connects the first and second stem members and the implant spans a gap in the shaft of the long bone.
