  • Publication number: 20110149263
Abstract: A control system controls a positioning device displaceable in at least one degree of freedom by a reluctance motor. A force sensing element and a controller adjust force applied by the motor responsive to a force sensing element configured to sense force applied by the motor. The controller receives a signal representing force applied by the motor from the force sensing element, obtain an acceleration trajectory plan associated with a velocity trajectory plan for the positioning device, obtain a force trajectory plan associated with the acceleration trajectory plan, compare the force applied with a required amount of force obtained from the force trajectory, and adjust the amount of force applied by the motor based on the comparison. Related methods are also presented.

  • Publication number: 20110145815
Abstract: A device list is created for an operating system and/or a virtualized operating system. A bus node is created for each bus. Interface nodes are created as child nodes of the respective bus and a status indicator indicates whether a device connected to the interface is accessible. A device node is created for the device connected to the interface. Virtualized interface nodes are created as child nodes of the device node for each virtual device included in the device and a status indicator indicates whether the respective virtual device is accessible. Then, devices and/or virtual devices may be added and/or removed utilizing the list. After a device and/or virtualized device has been removed for one operating system and/or virtualized operating system, it may then be added to another. In this way, devices and/or virtualized devices can be virtually hot plugged without physically connecting and/or disconnecting devices.

  • Publication number: 20100070374
Abstract: A method for pricing menu items at a consumer establishment includes repeatedly receiving data with a tracking system, where the data relates to at least one of menu item supplies and patron orders for menu items available at the consumer establishment. The received data is repeatedly analyzed, and the analyzed data is used to set current prices for the menu items. The current prices are then displayed to a patron, and an order is received from the patron for one or more of the menu items based upon the current prices.

  • Patent number: 7500380
Abstract: In a gas gauge, effects due to changes in the local environment are reduced by causing a measurement nozzle and a reference nozzle to react as if they were co-located, or located at approximately the same position. This is achieved by venting the reference nozzle in very close proximity to the measurement nozzle. A reference chamber surrounding the reference plate and reference nozzle is vented at approximately the same location as the measurement nozzle. In an embodiment for use in a vacuum environment, the measurement nozzle is surrounded with an annular ring. The measurement annular ring is connected to an annular ring around the reference nozzle, which acts to co-locate the reference nozzle and the measurement nozzle. To avoid choked flow, another annular ring or rings may be placed around the measurement annular ring.

  • Patent number: 7436161
Abstract: An improved circuit and method for decreasing the size and cost of switch mode power supplies is disclosed. In one illustrative example, a feedback circuit for a switch mode power supply is disclosed that includes two error amplifiers. The input of a first error amplifier is coupled to a voltage source associated with a load for the supply, and the input of a second error amplifier is coupled to a current source also associated with the load for the supply. Each one of the error amplifiers includes an adjustable shunt regulator that functions as an amplifier stage and diode. Also, the outputs of the shunt regulators are connected together.

  • Publication number: 20080008625
Abstract: Devices, materials and methods for the detection of one or more target analytes, particularly volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in air or other gases. Point sensors and sensor arrays for the detection of one or more of such analytes in air or other gases. Sensors employ the detection of IR absorption of wavelengths characteristic of a target analyte or a class of target analytes to detect the presence of and/or measure the concentration of one or more target analytes in air or other gases. Sensors employ sorbent layers into which one or more of the target analytes are adsorbed from the air or other gases to be analyzed. Preferred sorbent layers comprise polymer sorbents, metal oxide sorbents or mixtures thereof.

  • Patent number: 7298121
Abstract: An improved circuit and method for increasing the stability of switch-mode power supplies via frequency fold-back is disclosed. For example, a circuit for increasing the stability of a switch-mode power supply using the compensation signal to control the frequency of the oscillator is disclosed, which includes an operational amplifier that functions to scale the compensation signal. Thus, the switching frequency of the power supply involved is decreased as the load is reduced. This novel use of the compensation signal to control the switching frequency of a switch-mode power supply significantly increases the stability of the power supply as compared to prior switch-mode power supplies. Therefore, the switch-mode power supply may be used for those applications where relatively high stability is desired.
