  • Publication number: 20070217101
Abstract: Systems and methods for auto-resetting span power protection are provided. In one embodiment, a method for deactivating a protective device is provided. The method comprises determining when an overload condition occurs on a communication medium; when the overload condition occurs, deactivating at least one protective device by applying, for a first predetermined period of time, a short-circuit to an output of a power supply that provides a holding current to the at least one protective device; and after the first predetermined period of time has elapsed, removing the short-circuit on the output of the power supply.

  • Publication number: 20070150821
Abstract: An apparatus and method for creating a data centric graphical user interface (GUI) having XML document, Style(s), unique functionality (if required or desired), and data pair(s). The XML document coded with the Style(s), unique functionality, and data pair(s) are compiled to generate GUIs where the data being displayed is of importance and not the overall layout of the data. Further presented is a system comprising various applications, data, and a data centric GUI. The data centric GUI is used to transfer the data between various applications and across various platforms while allowing for human intervention between applications and formatting of the data most beneficial to the user.

  • Publication number: 20060238180
Abstract: An improved circuit and method for increasing the stability of switch-mode power supplies via frequency fold-back is disclosed. For example, a circuit for increasing the stability of a switch-mode power supply using the compensation signal to control the frequency of the oscillator is disclosed, which includes an operational amplifier that functions to scale the compensation signal. Thus, the switching frequency of the power supply involved is decreased as the load is reduced. This novel use of the compensation signal to control the switching frequency of a switch-mode power supply significantly increases the stability of the power supply as compared to prior switch-mode power supplies. Therefore, the switch-mode power supply may be used for those applications where relatively high stability is desired.

  • Publication number: 20060239048
Abstract: An improved circuit and method for decreasing the size and cost of switch mode power supplies is disclosed. In one illustrative example, a feedback circuit for a switch mode power supply is disclosed that includes two error amplifiers. The input of a first error amplifier is coupled to a voltage source associated with a load for the supply, and the input of a second error amplifier is coupled to a current source also associated with the load for the supply. Each one of the error amplifiers includes an adjustable shunt regulator that functions as an amplifier stage and diode. Also, the outputs of the. shunt regulators are connected together.

  • Patent number: 7072717
Abstract: An improved processing approach is disclosed in order to allow for different rates of stimulation to be used for different electrodes in a multi-electrode cochlear implant. When the incoming signal is processed by filter array (35), each channel is processed to determine amplitude (37) and to estimate the period of the signal in that channel (39). The amplitude and period information is used to determine which electrode is stimulated, and the timing of that stimulation.

  • Patent number: 7021120
Abstract: In a gas gauge, effects due to changes in the local environment are reduced by causing a measurement nozzle and a reference nozzle to react as if they were co-located, or located at approximately the same position. This is achieved by venting the reference nozzle in very close proximity to the measurement nozzle. A reference chamber surrounding the reference plate and reference nozzle is vented at approximately the same location as the measurement nozzle. In an embodiment for use in a vacuum environment, the measurement nozzle is surrounded with an annular ring. The measurement annular ring is connected to an annular ring around the reference nozzle, which acts to co-locate the reference nozzle and the measurement nozzle. To avoid choked flow, another annular ring or rings may be placed around the measurement annular ring.

  • Publication number: 20060004852
Abstract: A method is described for monitoring a plurality of process instances, such as business process instance. The method comprises: providing a model object reflecting a workflow common to the process instances, the model comprising a plurality of nodes with at least some of the nodes being capable of assuming at least active and blocked states; receiving events and changing the states of the nodes in corresponding model object instances in accordance with the events received so as to reflect the status of the process instances, repeatedly determining an “at risk” state indicator for the model instances, the “at risk” state indicator when set for a model instance indicating that the corresponding workflow instance is in a state in which it cannot progress to a normal completion without encountering a node in the blocked state.

  • Publication number: 20050098945
Abstract: Apparatus for generating random indicia sequences. The apparatus consists of a hopper for randomly mixing the indicia, at least two differing indicia carrying aggregate, and a viewing chamber. In one application, the random indicia sequences can be used to establish sequences of movements for game pieces having corresponding indicia. A further application would include a game of chance which employ the indicia sequences, and the prediction of the precise indicia sequence prior to entering the viewing chamber would dictate a winner.

  • Publication number: 20050034722
Abstract: The germ and noise filter device is a disposable, hand held filter apparatus that covers the mouth of the user during the exhale phase of a cough. The device comprises: a body with a cavity that houses three micro-filters; a corrugated tube; two one-way valves and a mesh screen. The body can be made of durable plastic material that may be transparent or a combination of many attractive colors. The two one-way valves act as a filter element for the noise that would normally occur. An eyelet is formed on the body to allow the device to be worn about the person. When a cough is eminent, the opening of the device is engaged against the user lips to prevent the transmission of air-borne diseases and reduce the noise of the coughs.

  • Publication number: 20040160132
Abstract: A system and method are used to levitate and translate a stage within a chamber using a motor assembly coupled to a balance mass assembly. The balance mass assembly is positioned adjacent the chamber. The motor assembly includes a stator and a coil. One of the stator and the coil are coupled to the stage on a first side of a wall of the chamber. The other of the stator and the coil are coupled to the balance mass assembly on a second side of the wall of the chamber. A magnetic assembly coupled to the stage allows the stage to levitate within the chamber. Once levitated, the stage is translated based on the interaction of the magnets and an energized coil.
