Publication number: 20130069967Abstract: Improved systems and techniques for representation of information. As a user creates a graphic design, properties represented by graphical elements of the design, are associated with visual characteristics of the elements, and a palette of elements is made available for use in development of the design or creation of new designs. As generalized elements are added to a design, the generalized elements may take on visual characteristics associated with properties identified by the positioning of the generalized elements in the design. Ongoing or existing designs may be surveyed to identify elements, properties represented by the elements, and visual characteristics associated with the properties, and new elements added to the palette or existing elements modified as a result of one or more surveys.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 20, 2011Publication date: March 21, 2013Applicant: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Ateret Anaby-Tavor, David Amid, Matthew J. Publication number: 20130033784Abstract: A periodic rotational vibration check for storage devices to compensate for varying loads is disclosed. A variable representing rotational vibration status is maintained in a rotational vibration log. The variable is processed to determine whether a storage device exhibits a rotational vibration issue. Workload analysis is performed to identify a change to the workloads run on physically separate hardware to resolve the rotational vibration issue and thus eliminate the need for more expensive hardware.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 3, 2012Publication date: February 7, 2013Applicant: INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATIONInventors: Brian James Cagno, Kenton Coleman Green, Carl Evan Jones, Michael Desmond O'Connell

Patent number: 8335503Abstract: In an idle state transition from a macro mobile network to a femtocell, a mobile station looks for the femtocell to operate in a frequency band typically assigned to a macro network. For normal macro network operations, mobile stations look for base stations operating on various channels, e.g. based on hashing of respective mobile station identifiers. Femtocells generate a pilot beacon on a carrier frequency to enable mobile station acquisition, e.g. to redirect a mobile station to the operating frequency of the femtocell. To avoid the need to continually cycle or hop through all possible macro assigned carrier frequencies, pilot beacon transmissions of a particular femtocell are prioritized to correspond to the mobile station(s) expected to utilize that femtocell, e.g. by using existing network information, provisioning device information or self learning/calculating information regarding the carrier most likely to be used by any particular mobile station expected to use the femtocell.Type: GrantFiled: February 23, 2009Date of Patent: December 18, 2012Assignee: Cellco PartnershipInventors: Christopher Michael Desmond, Alicia Lauren Aull, Charles Albert Sanders, Michael Kearns, Eugene A. Publication number: 20120092375Abstract: Automatically creating a series of intermediate states may include receiving a start state and an end state of a reactive system, identifying one or more components of the start state and the end state and determining one or more events associated with the one or more components. One or more intermediate states between the start state and the end state, and one or more transitions from and to the one or more intermediate states are created using the one or more components of the start state and the end state and the one or more events associated with the one or more components. The one or more intermediate states and the one or more transitions form one or more time-based paths from the start state to the end state occurring in response to applying the one or more events to the associated one or more components.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 13, 2010Publication date: April 19, 2012Applicant: INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATIONInventors: Rachel K. Publication number: 20120051583Abstract: A method of determining whether a given diagram is a conceptual model is provided. The method may include the following steps: obtaining a plurality of artifacts, wherein each one of the artifacts exhibits at least one diagram, and wherein at least some of the artifacts exhibit text associated with the diagrams; determining for each diagram, a plurality of specified factors; and estimating, for each diagram, a likelihood of the diagram being a conceptual model based at least partially on the determined factors. Optionally, the method may further include the step of applying a scoring function to the determined factors, to yield a score, wherein the estimating is further based on the score.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 26, 2010Publication date: March 1, 2012Applicant: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: David Amid, Ateret Anaby-Tavor, Avivit Bercovich, Michael Desmond, Amit Fisher, Harold Leon Ossher, Ian David Simmonds

Publication number: 20110302494Abstract: Disclosed is a computer-implemented method to create a presentation having at least one sheet, where each sheet contains one or more visual elements, as well as a system and computer program embodied on a computer-readable storage medium. The method includes, in response to input from a user, representing visual elements as depictions in a model, where each depiction depicts a single item in the model, where each item is a unit of information with a unique identifier, where each item can be depicted by at least one depiction and each depiction defines the visual representation of the item's information via the visual element. The method further includes, in response to a change to an item made by altering the visual element associated with the depiction of the item, automatically propagating the change to the item to all other depictions of the item across all sheets of the presentation. The method further includes updating the associated visual elements to reflect the change to the item.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 20, 2010Publication date: December 8, 2011Applicant: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Matthew J.
