  • Patent number: 9551115
Abstract: A system for varying the width of a molded concrete slab on the fly as the slab is being molded. Position and height of the paving machine relative to an external reference system are determined and controlled using at least two 3D stringless reference objects. An additional sensor provides a signal corresponding to a frame width and thus a concrete slab width, and an actuator controls the frame width actively as the paving machine advances.

  • Patent number: 9361212
Abstract: A programmable logic controller (PLC) with changing memory access times is intended to interact with a subordinate system, i.e., a discontinuous virtualized system, wherein a computation apparatus is provided, in which the PLC is implemented and in which the system that is subordinate to the PLC with respect to an operation to access the memory access is implemented. A memory to which a component of the PLC has access is integrated in the PLC. Also implemented in the computation apparatus is a proxy device that coordinates access to the memory of the PLC by the subordinate system such that simultaneous access by the component of the PLC has priority over access by the subordinate system and it is thus possible to ensure that the PLC always complies with a predefined cycle time of the PLC.

Abstract: An Integrated Circuit (IC) chip with a lab-on-a-chip, a method of manufacturing the lab-on-a-chip and a method of using the lab-on-a-chip for fluid flow analysis in physical systems through combination with computer modeling. The lab-on-a-chip includes cavities in a channel layer and a capping layer, preferably transparent, covering the cavities. Gates control two dimensional (2D) lattice structures acting as heaters, light sources and/or sensors in the cavities, or fluid channels. The gates and two dimensional (2D) lattice structures may be at the cavity bottoms or on the capping layer. Wiring connects the gates and the 2D lattice structures externally.

  • Patent number: 9283807
Abstract: An improved wheel is disclosed which is capable of traversing small obstacles easily without having to mount over the obstacle. The wheel design includes a wheel hub having an axis of rotation and a wheel rim coupled to the hub by a plurality of spokes. The wheel rim is formed in the shape of an annular sinusoidal wave having a plurality of alternating crests and troughs extending away from a center line by an amplitude. The wheel rim is configured such that the spokes couple to the rim at the center line at an intersection of the crests and troughs. The spokes are separated from each other by a space extending from the wheel rim to the hub.

  • Patent number: 9234794
Abstract: A method directs a gas of interest into a minicell and uses an emitting laser to produce laser emission light that is directed into the minicell and onto the gas of interest. The laser emission light is reflected within the cell to make multipasses through the gas of interest. After the multipasses through the gas of interest the laser light is analyzed to produces gas spectroscopy data. The minicell receives the gas of interest and a transmitting optic connected to the minicell that directs a beam into the minicell and onto the gas of interest. A receiving optic connected to the minicell receives the beam from the gas of interest and directs the beam to an analyzer that produces gas spectroscopy data.

  • Patent number: 8610989
Abstract: A microcavity-controlled two-dimensional carbon lattice structure device selectively modifies to reflect or to transmit, or emits, or absorbs, electromagnetic radiation depending on the wavelength of the electromagnetic radiation. The microcavity-controlled two-dimensional carbon lattice structure device employs a graphene layer or at least one carbon nanotube located within an optical center of a microcavity defined by a pair of partial mirrors that partially reflect electromagnetic radiation. The spacing between the mirror determines the efficiency of elastic and inelastic scattering of electromagnetic radiation inside the microcavity, and hence, determines a resonance wavelength of electronic radiation that is coupled to the microcavity. The resonance wavelength is tunable by selecting the dimensional and material parameters of the microcavity. The process for manufacturing this device is compatible with standard complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) manufacturing processes.
