  • Patent number: 8719135
Abstract: Methods and systems for providing estimated insurance quotes/premiums are described herein. After analyzing rate factors, a subset of rate factors are selected that yield a fairly accurate estimated insurance premium from a minimum amount of information easily obtainable from a user. The user inputs a value from a predetermined set of allowable inputs (value input filter). After receiving and analyzing the user inputs, the system generates one or more estimates and displays the one or more estimates to the user, e.g., via a web page. When multiple estimates are provided, the multiple estimates may differ based on the level of coverage, add-on features, or both. Readily known non-personal identifying information is preferably requested and used, thereby alleviating privacy concerns while still being able to provide an estimate to the user very quickly, e.g., under 30 seconds, once all the requested information is obtained.

  • Patent number: 8674323
Abstract: A method of forming a sample from a capillary with high-pressure frozen sample material comprises providing a high-pressure capillary with vitrified sample material at a temperature T1 below the glass transition temperature Tg, cutting the capillary, warming the capillary to a temperature T2 between temperature T1 and temperature Tg, cooling the capillary to a temperature T3 below temperature T2, as a result of which material is extruded from the capillary, and freeing a sample from the extruded sample material at a temperature below temperature Tg. Repeating this temperature cycle results in further extrusion of the sample material. The extruded material can then be sliced by, for example, ion beam milling.

  • Patent number: 8639177
Abstract: Learning content may be provided to a user where the learning content may contain learning objectives. A response to the learning content may be received. The response may be analyzed by determining whether the response was the proper response to the learning objectives. If the response was a proper response, less questions on the learning objective may be presented in the future and the if response was an improper response, additional questions on the learning objective may be presented in the future.

  • Publication number: 20130310979
Abstract: A neuromuscular model-based controller for a robotic limb having at least one joint includes a neuromuscular model having a muscle model, muscle geometry and reflex feedback loop to determine at least one torque or impedance command to be sent to the robotic limb. One or more parameters that determine relation between feedback data and activation of the muscle model are adjusted consequent to sensory data from at least one of an intrinsic sensor and an extrinsic sensor. A controller in communication with the neuromuscular model is configured to receive the at least one torque or impedance command and controls at least one of position, torque and impedance of the robotic limb joint.

  • Publication number: 20130227863
Abstract: A reversible wing plow including a hitch, a moldboard and a moldboard shifting mechanism. The hitch is coupleable to the rear of a prime mover. The moldboard is operably coupled to the hitch proximate an inboard end and rotatable about a first horizontal axis that extends outwardly from the hitch generally parallel to a direction of forward movement of the prime mover. The moldboard shifting mechanism includes first and second linear actuators, both of which are coupled to the hitch at one end and coupled to opposing sides of a rotation crank plate on the other end. The crank plate is further operably coupled to the moldboard, whereby the moldboard is rotatably shiftable to the driver or passenger side of the prime mover, or to a vertically oriented transport position.

  • Patent number: 8459386
Abstract: A road wheel propulsion apparatus for alternately propelling and retarding the rotation of a road wheel supporting an automotive vehicle. An electric drive motor is carried by a vehicle and is drivingly connected to a road wheel to provide motive force to the vehicle by driving the road wheel in rotation relative to the vehicle. The electric drive motor includes a radially inner motor stator to be fixed to a vehicle. The electric drive motor also includes a radially outer annular motor rotor to be carried within a road wheel and to be driven in rotation relative to the motor stator by electromagnetic forces developed by between the motor stator and the motor rotor.
