  • Patent number: 6534011
Abstract: The invention relates to an arrangement for the detection of biochemical or chemical substances using fluorescent light excitation, and to a process for its production, which can be used in a variety of fields, for example in biotechnology, in molecular medicine, in pharmaceuticals development and for the analysis or various chemical substances. A relatively simple structure is intended to provide the invention with the possibility of being able to carry out the detection of a large number of samples in a very short time with a high degree of accuracy. To that end, a laminar substrate is formed with a locally defined structure in order to detect different samples. Advantageously, on the detector side, a lens array designed according to the structuring can be used to project the fluorescent light from the different samples on to a detector array. It is, however, also possible to place a detector array matched to the structuring of the substrate on the substrate, or arrange it there.

  • Patent number: 6497252
Abstract: The invention relates to a miniaturized fluid flow switch which enables a directed deflection or deviation of a fluidic test current injected into a fluidic carrier current. The aim of the invention it to provide a fluid flow switch which does not require any moveable parts and with which no restricting preconditions exist with regard to the fluid media to be used. To this end, the inventive switch is comprised of at least two carrier current channels (11, 12) and of a test current channel (2) which, together, open into a distribution chamber (3) to which at least two discharge channels (41, 42) connect. The carrier current channels (11, 12) are connected to a common inlet (10), and at least the carrier current channels (11, 12) are respectively placed, in particle sections, in close thermal contact with controllable heating devices (5).

  • Patent number: 6229056
Abstract: The proposal is for unsaturated fatty substances with improved cold behavior obtained by (a) transesterifying a new low stearic (LS) sunflower oil with an oleic acid content of over 85 wt. % and a stearic acid content of under 3 wt. %, and (b) hydrogenating the resultant methyl esters in the prior art manner into the corresponding unsaturated fatty alcohols in the iodine number range from 90 to 100. The fatty substances are also distinguished by improved color and odor and are suitable for making fatty chemical products, e.g. alkoxylates, ether sulphates, sulphates and esters.

  • Patent number: 5917097
Abstract: A process for producing unsaturated fatty compounds having improved low-temperature properties bya) splitting lauric oils into fatty acids and glycerol,b) subjecting the fatty acids to fractional crystallization to obtain a fraction of unsaturated fatty acids, andc) hydrogenating the unsaturated fatty acids, optionally after converting the unsaturated fatty acids into their lower alkyl esters, to form unsaturated fatty alcohols having an iodine value of from about 85 to about 100.

  • Patent number: 5709739
Abstract: A composition useful as a release agent for hydraulic binders is provided. The composition comprises water, an oil component comprising a water-immiscible monohydric alcohol component liquid at temperatures of 5.degree. to 15.degree. C. and selected from the group consisting of unsaturated fatty alcohols containing 12 to 22 carbon atoms and having iodine values of 40 to 170, Guerbet alcohols containing 16 to 28 carbon atoms, oxoalcohols containing 8 to 15 carbon atoms, and saturated alcohols containing 6 to 10 carbon atoms, and 0.5 to 5% by weight of an emulsifier, based on the oil component. • Patent number: 5672781
Abstract: Fatty alcohols of the formula IR.sup.1 OH (I)wherein R.sup.1 is a saturated or unsaturated, linear or branched aliphatic radical having from about 8 to about 22 carbon atoms are made by an improvement in the process which comprises hydrogenating a fatty acid, a fatty acid methyl ester or a combination thereof to form a fatty alcohol. The improvement comprises removing a head fraction from the fatty acid, the fatty acid methyl ester or the fatty alcohol in such a quantity that the fatty alcohol has an iodine value of from about 20 to about 110 and less than about 4.5% by weight of conjugated compounds.
