  • Patent number: 7721802
Abstract: A sensor used to determine the height of one or more fluids in a fluid column and to determine a location of an interface or boundary between a plurality of fluids in a fluid column is disclosed. The sensor includes a plurality of sensing elements comprising a capacitor and other components, such as resistors and inductors. The sensor also includes an oscillator that alters a frequency of an electrical current applied to the sensor, from which the dielectric constant of the fluid in which each sensing element is disposed can be determined. Methods of using such a sensor to determine the relative heights of various fluids in a fluid column are disclosed. In particular, methods of using embodiments of the invention in a well, such as water and petroleum wells, are described.

  • Patent number: 7703539
Abstract: An expandable downhole tool is disclosed that employs naturally occurring organic matter as the expandable material. The expandable material is located within an enclosure formed in part by an impermeable element, which may form a hydraulic seal, and a permeable membrane that permits fluids present in the wellbore to pass and interact with the organic matter. The heat and fluids present within the wellbore may cause the expandable matter to swell, and thus causing the enclosure to swell and possibly form a hydraulic seal against a wellbore or inner annulus. The expandable tool may be used as packer, plug, or other downhole tool, among others. Methods of manufacturing and using such tools are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20080040220
Abstract: The present invention relates particularly to a system and method for providing product data for use in on-line product catalogs used for promotional schemes, such as loyalty and incentive schemes. Loyalty and incentive systems are well known, where participants gain virtual currency which they can use to purchase goods or services. The present invention enables a plurality of on-line catalogs to be constructed from a stream of supplier data. Selection criteria are used to select product data from the supplier data to go in each catalog. The product data can be updated in real time for each catalog on the basis of the selection criteria.

  • Publication number: 20070260571
Abstract: Generating code is disclosed. A specification of one or more translation patterns is received. The one or more translation patterns are used to generate at least a portion of code associated with a translator. Using the one or more translation patterns to generate at least a portion of code associated with the translator results in the translator being configured to create a target object model. Creating the target object model includes populating one or more elements of the target object model in a processing order at least in part associated with an order of elements in the one or more translation patterns.

  • Publication number: 20070185331
Abstract: A method for the in-situ treatment of a pyridine-2,3-dicarboxylic acid ester with an oxidizing agent, such as hydrogen peroxide, to improve product quality is provided. The method for the in-situ removal of impurities from a saponified solution of pyridine-2,3-dicarblxylic acid ester comprises the steps of providing a solution of pyridine-2,3-dicarboxylic acid ester, saponifying the solution with a base to form the corresponding pyridine-2,3-dicarboxylic acid salt, reacting the solution with an oxidizing agent in an amount effective to remove impurities, acidifying the solution with an acid to convert the pyridine-2,3-dicarboxylic acid into the corresponding pyridine-2,3-dicarboxylic acid, and collecting a purified solution comprising pyridine-2,3-dicarboxylic acid. Further provided is a method for the preparation of herbicidal 2-(2-imidazolin-2-yl)nicotinic acids, esters, and salts by using a pyridine-2,3-dicarboxylic acid salt prepared by the above method as an intermediate.

  • Publication number: 20070182800
Abstract: A release agent applicator applies release agent to an imaging drum and absorbs release agent metered from the drum to extend the operational life of a image drum maintenance unit. The applicator includes a reservoir for storing release agent, the reservoir having a plurality of perforations for enabling release agent to seep from the reservoir, a containment membrane mounted to the reservoir for wicking release agent from the perforations of the reservoir, and a delivery layer mounted to the containment membrane for delivering release agent from the containment membrane to an imaging drum that is in contact with the delivery layer. The delivery layer is matched to the containment membrane to maintain a saturation rate for the delivery layer in a predetermined range and the delivery layer has an uptake rate for release agent contacting an external boundary of the delivery layer that is greater than a release agent supply rate from the containment membrane to the delivery layer.

  • Patent number: 6910017
Abstract: From data that includes prices and unit sales of an item of commerce for a succession of time periods during which the item was sold, a relationship is derived that represents variation of unit sales of the item as a function of price and time of sale. A maximum profit is predicted by optimizing the price or inventory or both over time in accordance with the relationship. The optimized price or inventory or both over time are used in connection with making price decisions or inventory decisions or both with respect to marketing the item of commerce. A group of the data is aggregated, the group being chosen so that the aggregated data for the group will have an enhanced signal-to-noise ratio with respect to information about sales trends. The aggregated data for the group is analyzed for use in making price decisions with respect to marketing the items of commerce.
