  • Publication number: 20080043466
Abstract: Lighting devices are provided for efficiently distributing light over an area to provided uniform illumination over a wide angle or other tailored illumination patterns. Each light device has at least one light source, at least one collimator for partially collimating light from the light source, and at least one diffuser for diffusing light from the collimator. The diffuser provides diffused light over an area from the diffuser having an intensity that is angularly dependent in accordance with the angular distribution intensity of light outputted from the collimator, so as to provide a predetermined illumination pattern from the device. The light sources and collimators may be provided in one or two-dimensional arrays, and a single diffuser may be formed on each collimator or the diffuser may be along a plate spaced from the collimators.

  • Publication number: 20080025235
Abstract: A hierarchical communication system, arranged in a spanning tree configuration, is described in which wired and wireless communication networks exhibiting substantially different characteristics are employed in an overall scheme to link portable or mobile computing devices. Copies of data, program code and processing resources are migrated from their source toward requesting destinations based on request frequency, communication link costs and available local storage and/or processing resources. Each appropriately configured network device acts as an active participant in network migration. In addition, portable two-dimensional (2-D) code reading terminals are configured to wirelessly communicate compressed 2-D images toward stationary access servers that identify the code image through decoding and through comparison with a database of images that have previously been decoded and stored.

  • Publication number: 20080025378
Abstract: A hierarchical communication system is described in which two wireless local area networks exhibiting substantially different characteristics are employed to link inherently portable or mobile computer devices. A series of radio base stations make up a infrastructure network. The infrastructure network and at least one portable computer device make up the first local area network. The communication on the first local area network is accomplished by spread spectrum frequency hopping communication A second local area network allows for radio communication between a portable computer device and peripheral devices with built-in transceivers utilized by the portable computer device. The communication in each local area network is controlled by a reservation access communication protocol. The communication protocol facilitates frequency hopping synchronization and supports adaptive data rate selection based upon the quality of communication on the communication channel.

  • Patent number: 7295158
Abstract: An effects automation system for generating control data for the control of effects devices, based on the relative position of a mobile target. The system uses stationary receivers and stationary transmitter tags coupled to the stationary receivers and a mobile transmitter tag coupled to the mobile target. The stationary receivers receive signals received from the stationary and mobile transmitter tags and then send data based on these signals to a processing hub. The processing hub uses this data to determine the relative distance between the stationary receivers and the relative distance between the mobile target and the stationary receivers. Based on these relative distances, relative position values for the effect devices are calculated by calculating the proportion of the distance between the stationary receivers associated with the position of the mobile target. Finally, the relative position values are utilized to generate the control data for control of the effects devices.
