  • Publication number: 20140136484
Abstract: A system, method, and medium for performing incremental backups of a Microsoft SQL server database. A snapshot of the database is created, and then a map identifying the changed extents is retrieved from the snapshot. The changed extents are then retrieved from the snapshot and stored in a backup storage device. For a restore operation, a full database backup file is written to a storage device and then the changed extents from a stored incremental backup file may be merged with the full backup file. Next, the database server is notified of the reconstructed file and then the reconstructed file is mounted by the database server as a live instance of the database.

  • Patent number: 8473213
Abstract: A hydrocarbon exploration method is disclosed for generating anisotropic resistivity models of a subsurface reservoir from seismic and well data using a rock physics model. In one embodiment, the method comprises: selecting wells within a region of interest (101); obtaining a plurality of rock properties (102) and adjusting selected rock parameters (103) in the calibration of the rock physics model at the well locations; inverting porosity and shale content from seismic data (107); propagating the calibrated rock physics model to the region of interest (109) and calculating effective resistivity for the entire region of interest (109). The inventive method also provides for analyzing the uncertainty associated with the prediction of the resistivity volume.

  • Patent number: 8429359
Abstract: A method and apparatus for backing up a storage system, e.g., one or more disk drives. In one embodiment, an apparatus utilizes a volume snapshot service (VSS) to create a snapshot image file of a computer's storage system and then subsequently reads the data blocks contained in the snapshot image file. A determination of the number of modified data blocks, i.e., the data blocks that have changed since a last backup operation, is made. The apparatus estimates a backup size from the number of modified data blocks and subsequently determines if the estimated backup size exceeds a predetermined threshold. In the event the predetermined threshold is exceeded, a backup operation is conducted.

  • Publication number: 20130080397
Abstract: A full backup of a database is created at a first point in time. To restore the database to its state at a second point in time (after the full backup was created), a set of incremental backups, including the incremental backup that corresponds to the second point in time and incremental backups created between the first and second points in time, is used in reverse chronological order. For example, blocks in the full backup can be selectively overwritten with corresponding blocks from the incremental backups in reverse chronological order.

  • Publication number: 20130013209
Abstract: Method for predicting physical properties of a source rock formation wherein an inclusion-based (103) mathematical rock physics model (101) is constructed that treats organic matter as solid inclusions, solid background, or both, and relates anisotropic elastic and electric properties of source rock to in-situ rock and fluid properties (102). The model is calibrated with well log data and may be used to forward model calculate effective anisotropic elastic (104.1) and electrical (104.2) properties of the source rock formation, or by inversion (441-442) of sonic and resistivity log data to calculate total organic carbon (423) in terms of a difference (421) between elastic and electrical properties of the source rock.
