  • Patent number: 10646291
Abstract: A teleoperated surgical system includes a component such as a master control or a multi-jointed mechanical system that is configured for manual manipulation and a detection module configured to analyze movement of the component and detect uncontrolled movement of the component. Uncontrolled movement may be identified by detecting movement only on joints that gravity can move, but no movement on joints that are not subject to movement caused by gravity. In response to detection of uncontrolled movement of the component, the detection module can cause the system to switch to a safe mode of operation.

  • Patent number: 10644743
Abstract: Apparatus and methods are disclosed for obtaining a correlation function between a Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS) signal and a spreading code. A plurality of code replica samples are stored in memory at a relatively low sampling rate compared to the sampling rate at which the input DSSS signal is sampled. A correlation operator is obtained by reproducing the stored code replica samples, in order to obtain a correlation operator with the same number of samples as the block of DSSS signal samples currently being processed. For example, when the sampling rate of the DSSS signal is equal to an integer N multiple of the sampling rate used for the code replica samples, the stored replica samples are reproduced N times to obtain the correlation operator. The correlation operator is then multiplied by the block of DSSS signal samples and integrated to obtain a correlation function.

  • Publication number: 20200132272
Abstract: A light fixture housing contains an LED light source. A continuous light diffuser having a main body portion is defined between a first surface and a second surface of the continuous light diffuser, and is positioned within the housing to fully cover a light emitting opening formed in the housing. A discontinuous light diffuser having a main body portion is defined between a first surface and a second surface of the discontinuous light diffuser. A plurality of openings pass from the first surface of the discontinuous light diffuser through the main body portion to the second surface of the discontinuous light diffuser. The discontinuous light diffuser is positioned with its body portion in adjacent relation to either one of the first surface and the second surface of the continuous light diffuser so as to occlude a portion of the light emitting opening.

  • Publication number: 20200078109
Abstract: A teleoperational medical system comprises an input device and a manipulator configured to couple with and move an instrument. The system also comprises a control system including one or more processors. In response to a determination that the instrument is inserted into an instrument workspace in a corresponding direction to a field of view of the workspace, the control system is configured to map movement of the input device to movement of the instrument according to a first mapping. In response to a determination that the instrument is inserted into the instrument workspace in a non-corresponding direction to the field of view, the control system is configured to map movement of the input device to movement of the instrument according to a second mapping. The second mapping includes an inversion of the first mapping for at least one direction of motion of the instrument.

  • Publication number: 20190388167
Abstract: A system and method of breakaway clutching in a device includes an arm including a first joint and a control unit coupled to the arm and including one or more processors. The control unit switches the first joint from a first state of the first joint to a second state of the first joint in response to an external stimulus applied to the arm exceeding a first threshold and switches the first joint from the second state to the first state in response to a speed associated with the first joint falling below a speed threshold. Movement of the first joint is more restricted in the first state of the first joint than in the second state of the first joint.

  • Patent number: 10449008
Abstract: A system and method of breakaway clutching in a computer-assisted medical device includes an articulated arm having one or more first joints and a control unit coupled to the articulated arm and having one or more processors. The control unit operates each of the first joints in multiple states. The multiple states include a locked state, wherein movement of respective first joints is restricted, and a float state, wherein movement of the respective first joints is permitted. The control unit further switches one or more second joints selected from the first joints from the locked state to the float state when a stimulus on the second joints exceeds one or more unlock thresholds and switches the second joints from the float state to the locked state when a velocity of each of the second joints is below one or more lock thresholds.

  • Patent number: 10389641
Abstract: A method of operating a communications network is disclosed. In order to manage a network, it is first necessary to establish the state the network is in. This is difficult in practice because the network operational data stored and transmitted in the network takes a myriad of forms owing to the variety of suppliers and types of network equipment. There is a need to distil that network operational data down to aggregate network operational data which can be taken to provide an indication of the state of the network which is of a manageable size, and to which network management apparatus can react by sending control commands to the network. The problem of generating aggregate network operational data is difficult because of the heterogeneity of network operational data items.

  • Patent number: 10281584
Abstract: A received Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum DSSS signal is processed by performing DSSS acquisition to obtain estimates of a frequency offset and a spreading code phase, sequentially obtaining, for each one of a plurality of segments of a received DSSS signal, a correlation function between the DSSS signal segment and a replica of a spreading code by using a Time and Frequency Transform based correlation method, the estimated frequency and the spreading code phase, and performing DSSS carrier tracking by tracking the phase of a correlation peak in the obtained correlation functions, and applying phase corrections to the obtained correlation functions to provide fine Doppler compensation. The time and frequency transform based correlation method involves, for each segment of the received DSSS signal, obtaining a plurality of samples and transforming the samples from the time domain to the frequency domain.

  • Patent number: 10171178
Abstract: The present invention relates to a laser data transmission system and, more particularly, to a communication system using a plurality of laser beams populated with quantum entangled photons. At least one of the laser beams is moved to form an overlapping pattern with a second laser reference beam to form an interference pattern between the laser beams as they impinge upon a detector array to transmit encoded data and to remotely decode the encoded data simultaneously. The interference patterns are used to encode and simultaneously decode the interference shadows upon impingement of the laser beams on a detector array.

  • Publication number: 20180328729
Abstract: An automatic point layout system identifies points and their coordinates using vertical planes of laser light. Laser controllers aim vertical laser light planes that will cross at any desired point on the jobsite floor. The user views a virtual jobsite illustration on a remote controller touchscreen display, and selects a point of interest. Commands are sent to the two laser controllers, which aim their laser transmitters at that point of interest, showing visible laser light lines that intersect directly at the point of interest, for staking. The user selects a second point of interest on the touchscreen display, commanding the laser transmitters to rotate to a new set of coordinates. The user performs these functions seamlessly; the remote controller allows the user to quickly move from one point of interest to the next, without having changing to any other operating mode between the identifying and staking of each new point.
