  • Patent number: 6281384
Abstract: An improved method for manufacturing acrylic acid by vapor phase oxidation of propylene in a single step or reaction stage using as solid phase oxidant a mixture of two particulate solids comprising a bismuth molybdate multimetal oxide (e.g., Mo12Co3.5Bi1.1Fe0.8W0.5Si1.4K0.05Ox) and a molybdenum vanadate multimetal oxide (e.g., Mo12V4.8Sr0.5W2.4Cu2.2Ox). Such a process is advantageously carried out in a recirculating solids reactor system wherein the particulate mixture of solids in an oxidized state reacts with a feed gas containing propylene in a vertical riser reactor and after separation from the acrylic acid gaseous product the particulate mixture of solids in a reduced state is regenerated by contact with an oxygen containing gas in a separate regeneration reactor before recirculation to the riser for further reaction.

  • Patent number: 5953408
Abstract: A telephone is disclosed which includes a transducer and a controller. The transducer produces a sound having a level which varies as a function of the frequency and duty cycle of an excitation signal. The controller provides the excitation signal which has different frequencies, such as a coded melody. The controller varies the duty cycle so that the level of the sound from the transducer remains constant at the different frequencies. The telephone also includes a memory for storing values of the duty cycle corresponding to the different frequencies. These values allow the level of the sound to remain constant at the different frequencies. The controller codes the melody by storing in a table of the memory components of the melody, such as notes, silences, repetitions, the duration of each note or each silence, and a repetition number for melody components which are to be repeated. A time limit is also included in the table when the repetition number is infinite.

  • Patent number: 5263035
Abstract: The disclosure relates to an undulator, namely a device generating a transverse magnetic field polarized alternatively North-South and South-North along the path of an electron beam and enabling the direct conversion, in a free electron laser, of a part of the energy of a beam of relativistic electrons into light energy. The undulator comprises a conductor forming, along the path of the electron beam, undulations that wholly or partially induce the transverse magnetic field. To increase the light efficiency, it consists in providing for auxiliary current bypass connectors on said conductor. These auxiliary connectors enable the modulation of the transverse magnetic field as a function of the changing characteristics of the high frequency electrical field which increases during the arrival of a packet of electrons in the optical cavity of the laser owing to the energy yielded by these electrons.
