  • Patent number: 7322606
Abstract: An occupant protection apparatus includes a cover sheet adapted to be fed out from a peripheral edge of a window of a vehicle, when a pulling unit is activated, so as to cover the window. The pulling unit includes a pulling string having flexibility and a pulling device to which the pulling string is connected so as to be pulled thereby and which is disposed below the window. When the pulling device is activated, the pulling string is pulled such that a portion thereof which extends from a fixed end to where it is supported by a support member becomes a straight line while a portion thereof which is disposed along a lower edge portion of the peripheral edge of the window is caused to rise.

  • Publication number: 20070273129
Abstract: An airbag apparatus comprising an airbag module installed in a backrest of a vehicle seat is provided. The backrest has a side support on each side. Each side support has a base portion located at a position closer to a center of the backrest. The airbag module is installed in a side portion of the back rest that faces the exterior of the vehicle. The airbag module includes a gas generator that generates gas in response to impact from a side of the vehicle, and first and second airbag portions that are inflated and deployed by the gas generated by the gas generator. The airbag module is installed in the backrest in such a manner that, when the airbag is inflated and deployed, the first airbag portion pushes the base portion of the side support on the exterior side obliquely forward and further into the passenger compartment.

  • Patent number: 7278655
Abstract: A head-protecting airbag of the present invention is folded and housed in upper edges of side windows, and is deployable downward when inflation gas flows in between its vehicle's inner wall and outer wall. The airbag includes a protective portion located at side of an occupant's head. The protective portion includes a temporary joint. The joint joins the inner wall and the outer wall together, and separates the inner wall and the outer wall when an inner pressure of the protective portion rises after the protective portion completes development. The airbag of the present invention assures a swift development in an initial stage of inflation, and after completing development, so inflates as to have sufficient cushioning property.

  • Publication number: 20060267317
Abstract: A method for protecting an occupant seated on a seat of a vehicle in a side collision of the vehicle is disclosed. In the method, the lumbar region of the occupant is retained in a section that corresponds to the pelvis rearward of the acetabulum in the skeletal structure of the occupant by using an impact absorbing member. Specifically, the lumbar region of the occupant is retained in a section that corresponds to an ilium in the skeletal structure of the occupant. In a side collision of the vehicle, the impact absorbing member initially contacts the lumbar region in a section corresponding to the ilium.

  • Patent number: 7077424
Abstract: A head protecting airbag device comprises an airbag and a gas feeder member. The airbag includes a main portion, an inlet port and a plurality of mounting portions. The inlet port is connected above an intermediate pillar portion to a gas feeder so as to admit inflating gas downward into a gas receiving portion of the main portion. The mounting portions are composed of a vicinity mounting portion arranged close to the inlet port, and general mounting portions. A recess is formed between the vicinity mounting portion and the inlet port. This recess substantially enlarges the length of the outer peripheral edge of the vicinity mounting portion facing the inlet port and the outer peripheral edge of the inlet port facing the vicinity mounting portion, thereby increasing the possible separation of the vicinity mounting portion and the inlet port.

  • Patent number: 6984078
Abstract: Diaphragm blades move in a direction approaching to or separated from an optical axis of an incident light at the time of operation. Opening edges of the diaphragm blades are provided with neutral density (ND) filters having a predetermined transmittance to pass the incident light. Edges of the ND filters are provided with inclined surfaces having a predetermined angle with respect to the optical axis. With this configuration, flare is suppressed and image quality is enhanced.

  • Patent number: 6938920
Abstract: An occupant restraining device (S1) comprises a shielding member (51F) and an airbag (104F). The shielding member (51F) in action is deployed from the peripheral edge (DW) of a window (WF) of a vehicle to shield the window. The airbag (104F) in action is expanded and inflated from the peripheral edge (UW) of the window that it can be interposed between the shielding member (51F) and an occupant (M). The airbag (104F) allows the side of the lower end (105b) at the time of completion of the expansion and inflation to move in the direction generally perpendicular to the window (WF). Even if the occupant (M) is close to the window (WF), the expanded and inflated airbag (104F) is smoothly interposed between the occupant (M) and the window (WF).

  • Patent number: 6924946
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a lens diaphragm device that can avoid a degradation of an image due to both diffraction of a light beam and flares. The diaphragm device includes two diaphragm vanes (2 and 4) that respectively have notches (28 and 36) opposed to each other in a single plane perpendicular to an optical axis (O), and two of the vanes are moved close to and apart from each other in the single plane so as to vary an aperture of the lens diaphragm. The lens diaphragm device also includes two optical filters (6 and 8) used to reduce a quantity of a beam of light passing through the diaphragm, and an aperture of the diaphragm defined by edges of the optical filters and the notches of the vanes is shaped to be asymmetrical about straight line which crosses the optical axis and is perpendicular to directions of the motion of the vanes.
