Patent number: 5726837Abstract: The magnetoresistance effect element is of a multilayered structure having at least magnetic layers and an intermediate layer of an insulating material, a semiconductor or an antiferromagnetic material against the magnetic layers, and the magnetoresistance effect element has terminals formed at least on the opposite magnetic layers, respectively, so that a current flows in the intermediate layer. The film surfaces of all the magnetic layers constituting the magnetoresistance effect element are opposed substantially at right angles to the recording surface of a magnetic recording medium. Therefore, the area of the magnetic layers facing the recording surface of the magnetic recording medium can be extremely reduced, and thus the magnetic field from a very narrow region of the high-density recorded magnetic recording medium can be detected by the current which has a tunneling characteristic and passes through the intermediate layer.Type: GrantFiled: October 24, 1994Date of Patent: March 10, 1998Assignee: Hitachi, Ltd.Inventors: Ryoichi Nakatani, Masahiro Kitada, Naoki Koyama, Isamu Yuito, Hisashi Takano, Eijin Moriwaki, Mikio Suzuki, Masaaki Futamoto, Fumio Kugiya, Yoshibumi Matsuda, Kazuo Shiiki, Yoshinori Miyamura, Kyo Akagi, Takeshi Nakao, Hirotsugu Fukuoka, Takayuki Munemoto, Tokuho Takagaki, Toshio Kobayashi, Hideo Tanabe, Noboru Shimizu

Patent number: 5685958Abstract: A magnetic recording medium is constructed with a substrate made of glass, one or two underlayers, and a magnetic film. In order that the easy magnetization axis of the magnetic film is parallel to the magnetic film, an underlayer having an NaCl crystallographic structure is superposed on the substrate. A magnetic film made of a Co based alloy having a hexagonal close packed crystallographic structure is formed on this underlayer, putting an underlayer made of a material having a body centered cubic crystallographic structure therebetween at need. Magnetic anisotropy of the magnetic film is increased by forming grooves in a predetermined direction in a surface portion of the substrate. These grooves play a role also for defining the orientation of the underlayer made of the material having an NaCl crystallographic structure.Type: GrantFiled: October 17, 1996Date of Patent: November 11, 1997Assignee: Hitachi, Ltd.Inventors: Masaaki Futamoto, Atsushi Nakamura, Nobuyuki Inaba, Yoshiyuki Hirayama, Yoshibumi Matsuda, Mikio Suzuki, Yukio Honda

Patent number: 5651423Abstract: A hydraulic power steering apparatus includes a motor-driven pump which discharges pressurized working fluid at a flow rate proportional to the rotational speed. A load-pressure responsive valve is connected to a discharge passage to which the pressurized fluid is discharged from the pump. The load-pressure responsive valve bypasses the pressurized fluid to a reservoir when the control valve is in a neutral state, thereby reducing the amount of the pressurized fluid supplied to the control valve, and increases the amount of the pressurized fluid supplied to the control valve when the load pressure of the pump increases upon operation of the control valve. With this control, the energy consumed by the pump can be reduced.Type: GrantFiled: May 30, 1995Date of Patent: July 29, 1997Assignee: Toyoda Koki Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Kyosuke Haga, Mikio Suzuki, Yoshiharu Inaguma, Hideya Kato

Magnetic recording/reproducing with added intersymbol interference to obtain a partial-response code
Patent number: 5539588Abstract: A magnetic recording/reproducing uses a wide frequency band of a DC component to the next lowest spectral null frequency point and higher by using an existing recording/reproducing head and medium. Intersymbol interference is added to a magnetic recording channel so that an impulse response comes to a partial-response channel shown by polynomial 1-D.sup.n (D.sup.n is an n-bit signal delay); in which T is a Nyquist interval (reproduction-bit time interval), the values of (n>2) and T are selected by assuming equal frequency interval between the spectral null frequency points 1/nT, and thereby a symbol string having a Nyquist frequency equal to or higher than the second spectral null frequency point from the lowest frequency side excluding the vicinity of the DC component of the recording/reproducing characteristic is recorded or reproduced.Type: GrantFiled: February 1, 1994Date of Patent: July 23, 1996Assignee: Hitachi, Ltd.Inventors: Hideki Sawaguchi, Mikio Suzuki, Hiroko Sukeda -
