  • Patent number: 6245385
Abstract: Cellulosic single fibers such as cotton is prepared without any resins or pitches to a mass or bulk such as a lap which is self-shaped and retains its form by a force of cohesive intertanglement of fibers. The mass as prepared is heated for carbonization or graphitization, if desired, to obtain unique shaped carbides of porous and stable structures in which the cohesion of fibers is made more dense on account of the total shrinkage of the mass by carbonization.

  • Patent number: 6229673
Abstract: A magnetic disk drive has a magnetic disk and a magnetic head assembly mounted on an arm. The assembly is utilized in the recording and reproducing of data on and from a recording/reproducing surface of a magnetic disk. The magnetic head assembly includes a support body for connecting the magnetic head assembly to the arm and a head chip attached to the support body. The head chip is configured and arranged for making substantially continuous sliding contact with the recording/reproducing surface of the magnetic disk during recording/reproducing. The head chip includes a wafer base, a read/write element for recording/reproducing data from the recording/reproducing surface of the magnetic disk. The read/write element is formed from a plurality of thin film layers superposed upon the wafer base and the head is elongated in a direction generally perpendicular to a plane generally defined by the recording/reproducing surface.

  • Patent number: 6182432
Abstract: A hauling cord (L) for pulling an electric power line or the like cable into a conduit has an elongate linear body (1) that is typically a monofilament of a thermoplastic resin. The cord is of a regular or irregular cross section with one or more helical ridges (2) that extend around, along and integral with the linear body between opposite ends of the linear body. The helical ridges are formed by drawing and twisting a raw material of the linear body, and may have either of or both the opposite ends made thinner and/or twisted stronger than the remaining portion so that the pitch between the adjacent ridges is reduced. The cross section renders the cord lighter in weight and more slender, and nevertheless its compression strength and tensile strength are improved.

  • Patent number: 6031633
Abstract: An original image reading apparatus comprises an exposure optical system including a scanner optical system which can perform go and return operations, a scanner driving motor which drives said scanner optical system, velocity detecting means for detecting a moving velocity of said scanner optical system and position detecting means for detecting the position of said scanner optical system. In the apparatus, return control is performed which is control of returning said scanner optical system after an original image reading scan has been finished. A target velocity is calculated from a residual distance from a current position of said scanner optical system to a target reference position. Target acceleration is used as feedforward. Velocity control is performed so that detected velocity follows the target velocity.

  • Patent number: 6023144
Abstract: A motor drive control method and an apparatus therefor in a motor used in an adjusting device for adjusting a physical amount such as a temperature of a heat-generating member, wherein a load on a bearing of the motor caused by frequently repeating drive/stop of the motor can be reduced; thereby, prolonging the service life of the motor. The temperature of the heat-generating member is detected by a temperature detection sensor. A comparison calculating unit calculates a temperature change rate K.sub.n or the like in order to recognize the temperature of the heat-generating member and a change state (such as, a temperature change rate), and selects a rotating speed change characteristic appropriate for the change state at such time. An indication signal for changing the rotating speed of the motor on the basis of the selected characteristic is outputted to a motor control driver in order to perform drive control for the motor.

  • Patent number: 6009282
Abstract: When a sensitivity of film used for photographing is less than a predetermined sensitivity, or when an external light brightness measured by a photometry means is more than a predetermined brightness, a strobe exposure is controlled to decrease gradually from 0 EV flash, wherein a standard strobe exposure can be obtained, to -1 EV to -2 EV to -2 EV . . . . On the other hand, when the external light brightness is less than the predetermined brightness, the 0 EV flash is performed compulsively regardless of the film sensitivity, and the ratio of the strobe exposure becomes high, so that the exposure contribution rate of the external light is relatively lowered. As a result, the spectral characteristics of the external light source have small effect on the image surface when the high-sensitivity film is used, and the color fading caused by the spectral characteristics of the external light source can be prevented.

  • Patent number: 5943516
Abstract: A warning system of a camera for providing a photographer a warning indicating an impediment to a window, provided in a front wall of the camera, through which light traveling toward and/or from a subject passes. It includes a touch sensor, disposed in close proximity to the window, which involves a resistance, or a body capacity, of a photographer's finger touching the sensor in, and as a part of, an electric circuit. This provides a change in electric parameter of the circuit by which a warning device is actuated to emit light, or otherwise generate sound, as the warning of impediment.

  • Patent number: 5881964
Abstract: A splicing tape supply device is composed of a main body for supplying splicing tape to a splicing drum and a moving mechanism for moving the main body. The main body is provided with a reel on which the splicing tape is wound, and the splicing tape is unwound from the reel and supplied to the splicing drum via a peel plate. The moving mechanism consists of a pair of rails and screw feeding equipment. An angle of inclination .theta..degree. of the rails is equal to an angle of inclination of a cutting line between two web ends, and the rails are inclined in the same direction of the cutting line. When the main body is moved along the rails, the splicing tape is supplied to the splicing drum at the angle of .theta..degree.. Thereby, the web ends, which are cut at a predetermined angle of inclination, can be satisfactorily spliced together with the splicing tape.

  • Patent number: 5824920
Abstract: A method of obtaining a limit glide height in flying a head above a recording medium being rotated. The first step is storing the medium and the head into a chamber, stepwise reducing an air pressure in the chamber, and measuring a flying height of the head and a frequency of contact of the head with the medium in each step. The second step is performing head vanish to polish away projections on the medium by means of the head under such conditions that the head at least intermittently comes into contact with the medium. The third step is reproducing the air pressure in each step in the first step, and again measuring a flying height of the head and a frequency of contact of the head with the medium in each step.

  • Patent number: 5766014
Abstract: A binary information display apparatus displays braille information with high accuracy by means of four braille pins, which are actuated by a stepping motor having a stepping angle of 45.degree. and, hence, eight step positions. The apparatus includes four pins; a triplet cam which acts on ends of three pins out of the four pins so as to independently urge such three pins to selectively project from a display surface of a pin-supporting member and to selectively retract the same behind the display surface; a stepping motor for rotating the triplet cam about an axis thereof; and a fourth cam portion which actuates the remainder of the four pins. The motor can perform consecutive seven steps at 45.degree. intervals, starting from a position where a rotation restricting projection on the fourth cam portion abuts a stopper step surface on the pin-supporting member, without causing rotation of the fourth cam portion.
