  • Patent number: 4157097
Abstract: A spectacle washer including a washing tub of a generally rectangular shape and a vibrator of not ultrasonic but mechanical type. The washing tub is formed at one of its longer side walls with a nose-shaped bulge which bulges thereinto and extends along the vertical center line of that particular side wall. The bottom wall of the washing tub is partially raised to form a raised bottom which extends around that center line and merging into the nose-shaped bulge. This raised bottom is shaped and sized to allow both the lower portions of the paired rims and the paired nose pads of a pair of spectacles to stably rest thereon, while one of the sides of the spectacles being placed on that portion of the bottom wall, which is left unraised. The mechanical vibrator is equipped with an electric motor and an eccentric weight. The electric motor has its vertical shaft of rotation positioned in the vertical center plane, in which the afore-mentioned center line extends.

  • Patent number: 4022960
Abstract: Disclosed are polymers of metal salts of itaconic acid monoester and copolymers of the said metal salts with vinyl monomer, having excellent optical properties such as high refractive index and transparency. The polymers and copolymers are obtained by irradiating with radioactive rays a polymerizable ingredient which is one member selected from the group consisting of (1) one metal salt of itaconic acid monoester, (2) a mixture of two or more metal salts of itaconic acid monoester and (3) a mixture of at least one metal salt of itaconic acid monoester with vinyl monomer. Further, a polymerizable ingredient prepared by adding to the aforementioned polymerizable ingredient a polymerization catalyst is subjected to thermal treatment to produce a polymer.

  • Patent number: 4012621
Abstract: In the method of initiating the scarfing process for removing the surface defects of a steel material as the material to be scarfed is moving relative to the movement of the scarfing machine having a scarfing nozzle, the improvement, which comprises the use of a consumable electrode having a steel sheath filled with an oxygen source material and a combustible material being fed to a scarfing position on said material to be scarfed until the tip of the consumable electrode contacts said position, thereby rapidly heating contact point of the steel material with electrical energy and the heat of oxidation up to the scarfing initiation temperature, and instantaneously starting the scarfing operation with oxygen jetted from said scarfing nozzle at the position of the steel material heated to such temperature.

  • Patent number: 4012346
Abstract: Acrylic synthetic fibers having excellent touch and luster properties are produced, wherein such fibers are prepared from a copolymer comprising 30 weight % or more of acrylonitrile, 70 weight % and less of vinyl chloride and/or vinylidene chloride and from 0 to 10 weight % of other polymerizable vinyl monomers. The copolymer also contains at least one metallic compound which is present in an amount of from 0.1 to 8.0 parts per 100 parts of copolymer and, additionally, at least one cellulose derivative which is present in an amount from 1.0 to 8.0 parts per 100 parts of the copolymer. Fibers produced from such copolymer have the touch and luster very similar to natural animal hair.

  • Patent number: 3961635
Abstract: An applicator and device for depositing and distributing a liquid on the hair is disclosed which has a flexible supply reservoir, a cap portion attached to the reservoir, and a comb tooth support member attached to the cap portion, the comb tooth support member having several comb teeth attached thereto. By manually squeezing the flexible supply reservoir, the hair treating liquid is forced through passage ways through the cap portion, the comb tooth support member and through passages in each of the comb teeth. The exit passages of the comb teeth are located approximately at the mid-point between the ends of the comb teeth. This allows the application of the liquid to the hair without the liquid coming into direct contact with the scalp. The comb teeth may be individually attached to the comb tooth support member, or may be attached to a common base which is, in turn, attached to the comb tooth support member.
