  • Publication number: 20170299039
Abstract: Gears are known to have a whine that can be unpleasant to operators or occupants of vehicles. A gear set is disclosed in which the pressure angle of the teeth varies along the periphery of the gear. A mating gear also has teeth with varying pressure angle. The teeth that mate have an identical pressure angle so that present disclosure is applicable only to 1:1 or integer ratio gears: 2:1, 3:1, etc. Because the teeth meet differently as a function of the pressure angle, the fundamental vibration frequency is not reinforced as would be the case with all teeth having the same pressure angle.

  • Patent number: 9788210
Abstract: Systems disclosed herein may allocate buffer space using methods, which prevent other resource allocation methods from apportioning the other resources in a way that inhibits system needs from being met. As such, buffer space may be dynamically allocated without impeding other resource allocation by basing the buffer space allocation at least on the traffic priority class that each allocated buffer will handle. Alternatively, buffer space may be dynamically allocated without impeding other resource allocation by basing the buffer space allocation at least on the bandwidth needs of each respective buffer being allocated. Alternatively still, buffer space may be dynamically allocated without impeding other resource allocation by basing the buffer space allocation at least on a function of the traffic priority class that each allocated buffer will handle and the bandwidth needs of each respective buffer being allocated.

  • Patent number: 9770873
Abstract: A system and method for creating an optimized composite laminate structure containing a plurality of plies. The system has a processor and a memory, including an application interface. The application interface, when executed by the processor, is configured to operably: receive an input file having one or more of a maximum number of plies, design variables, material properties, and design constraints; determine an initial layup sequence defining parameters of a fiber orientation angle for each ply, and a total percentage of plies at a given fiber orientation angle; iteratively adjust the parameters, until an optimum set of parameters is obtained that achieves one or more predetermined margins of safety, and that achieves optimization of the composite laminate structure; and generate an output file for creating a layup, according to the parameters. The system further has a layup system for creating the optimized composite laminate structure.

  • Publication number: 20170260537
Abstract: An engineered plant-derived transfer (P-)DNA was designed and constructed based on a couple of T-DNA homologous sequences in sugar beet genome. Plant transformation efficacy of the engineered P-DNA was analyzed compared to conventional T-DNA in two independent systems, stable transformation of tobacco plant and sugar beet hairy roots. The outcomes demonstrated that plant transformation is directed well by vectors carrying the engineered P-DNA with higher efficiency than the conventional binary vector in both experimental systems. This vector was further improved by adding two matrix attachment regions within P-DNA. This new vector was even more efficient in gene transfer, higher than conventional binary vector.

  • Publication number: 20170230299
Abstract: Systems and methods which provide resource sharing techniques implementing opportunistic shared resource utilization using dynamic traffic shaping are disclosed. Embodiments implement a multi-part transmission frame generation process in which data packets of various different traffic flows are selected for the transmission frame to fill the frame capacity. For example, scheduling logic may apply traffic shaping logic to select data packet queues from which data packets are to be included in a frame and to initially determine a number of packets to be included in the frame from each selected data packet queue according to the traffic shaping logic. Thereafter, the frame may be analyzed to determine if excess capacity remains. The scheduling logic may then apply traffic shaping logic to the data packet queues to implement an opportunistic scheme for including additional data packets in the frame and thereby fill the excess capacity.

  • Patent number: 9695788
Abstract: Adding dome-shaped protuberances, or polydomes, to an engine system increases the structural integrity of the engine component to which they are added and allows noise radiated in the engine system to be reduced in certain regions of the frequency spectrum without incurring a significant increase in the mass of the engine part to which they are added, which may result in a longer solidification time during the mold injection process. The size and spatial arrangement of polydomes relative to one another can be further adjusted to reduce noise within the engine system and polydomes may be reinforced with ribs to increase the structural stiffness of plastic engine components. Because plastic engine components are created using an injection mold process during the manufacturing process, added surface features (e.g. polydomes and ribs) are continuous with the underlying planar surface to which they are added.
