  • Patent number: 8866340
Abstract: The supercapacitor-based grid fault ride-through system provides a dynamic model of a wind generation system including a Voltage Source Converter (VSC), which functions as a Static Compensator (STATCOM). The power control capability of the STATCOM is extended by incorporating energy stored in a supercapacitor. The system implements a vector control technique based on the decoupling of real and reactive power. Simulation results show that a fixed speed induction generator is capable of withstanding a significant grid fault when aided by the supercapacitor-based grid fault ride-through system. Moreover, the induction generator regains its pre-fault status immediately after the fault is cleared.

  • Publication number: 20140308176
Abstract: Hydrogen and carbon monoxide impurities are removed from a dry gas comprising the impurities, wherein the dry gas is at least substantially free of carbon dioxide, by passing the dry gas with sufficient residence time, e.g. at least 1.5 s, through a layer of catalyst comprising a mixture of manganese oxide and copper oxide. The use of expensive noble metal catalysts to remove hydrogen may thereby be avoided. In addition, regeneration of the catalyst using oxygen-containing regeneration gas does not reduce the effectiveness of the catalyst.

  • Publication number: 20140280494
Abstract: A relay component for a back office service creates an externally exposed REST service endpoint in front of the back office service. Instead of calling the back office service directly, REST service clients make REST service calls to the relay component using the HTTP protocol. The relay component coverts the data to XML format and sends it in a SOAP call to the back office service. The relay component receives the response from the back office service as a SOAP response that is converted to a REST message to be sent to the REST client.

  • Patent number: 8824586
Abstract: Performance in multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) antenna systems may be enhanced by configuring beams in a direction that reduces coupling between the beams. A decoupling metric may be calculated based on signal strengths received through the beams when an antenna system is pointed in different directions. The decoupling metric may be used to select a particular direction for operation of the antenna system. The decoupling metric may be combined with the signal strengths from each beam to select a direction for the antenna. An interface provides information to a user during positioning of the antenna to allow the user to select a direction for placement of the antenna that reduces coupling between beams in the MIMO antenna system.

  • Publication number: 20140241928
Abstract: A rotary-vane vacuum pump comprises a stator and a vaned rotor, the stator partly defining an outlet chamber and including an outlet passage opening to the outlet chamber. The rotor is rotatably sealed to the stator; it has a sealing area to block the outlet passage, and, an unsealing area alignable with the outlet passage by rotation of the rotor to periodically unblock the outlet passage. The disclosed pump offers reduced resistance to lubricant oil discharge from the outlet passage, which results in lower differential pressure between inlet and outlet chambers at the end of the pumping cycle.

  • Patent number: 8781909
Abstract: A method of determining a service provider to perform a service. A request for the service and requirements pertaining to performance of the service is received. Identification of providers of service capable of performing the service in conformity with the requirements is received. The request and the requirements are broadcasted to the providers of service. An indication of willingness, by service providers selected from the providers of service, to perform the service in conformity with the requirements is received. An indication of performance of the service by each service provider and statistical data indicative of an extent to which performance of the service by each service provider matches each requirement are received. A preferred service provider is ascertained from analysis of the statistical data, based on performance of the service by the preferred service provider most closely matching the requirements. An identification of the preferred service provider is stored.

  • Publication number: 20140165951
Abstract: Adding dome-shaped protuberances, or polydomes, to an engine system increases the structural integrity of the engine component to which they are added and allows noise radiated in the engine system to be reduced in certain regions of the frequency spectrum without incurring a significant increase in the mass of the engine part to which they are added, which may result in a longer solidification time during the mold injection process. The size and spatial arrangement of polydomes relative to one another can be further adjusted to reduce noise within the engine system and polydomes may be reinforced with ribs to increase the structural stiffness of plastic engine components. Because plastic engine components are created using an injection mold process during the manufacturing process, added surface features (e.g. polydomes and ribs) are continuous with the underlying planar surface to which they are added.

  • Patent number: 8750149
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are disclosed for applying successive multi-rank beamforming strategies (e.g., successive precoding strategies) for the design of precoders over a set of parallel channels. Successive beamforming is applied to a narrow band channel model and is also applied for finer quantization of a single beamforming vector (e.g., recursive beamforming). A first embodiment provides the optimal approach with high complexity. An alternative embodiment provides successive beamforming for near optimal precoding selection with medium complexity. A low complexity method for precoder selection is also provided wherein a channel representative matrix for the set of parallel channels is determined and successive beamforming on the calculated channel representative is applied.
