  • Publication number: 20130301748
Abstract: Channel gain information is utilized for determining linear, or non-linear, combinations of transmitted symbols to increase symbol throughput. The base station recombines symbols directed to different receivers in response to the channel gain information. Channel gain information, which is subject to delay, has been previously utilized merely for predicting current channel gains prior at the time of transmission. The present invention, however, utilizes the channel gain information to increase coding efficiency even when the channel gain information is not utilized for predicting current channel gains. The method, apparatus and systems of the invention are applicable to any configuration of multiple wireless transmission to multiple receivers.

  • Publication number: 20130289843
Abstract: A vehicle yaw stability control method and a vehicle yaw stability control apparatus are provided. The yaw rate {dot over (?)} of the vehicle is measured. A first reference yaw rate {dot over (?)}ref is set. A difference yaw rate ?{dot over (?)} is set. Stabilizing braking intervention is triggered when a value of the difference yaw rate ?{dot over (?)} exceeds limits defined by difference yaw rate threshold values ?{dot over (?)}min, ?{dot over (?)}max. Information regarding the shape of the road ahead of the vehicle is acquired. The reliability of the driver steering input ? is evaluated upon stabilizing braking intervention being triggered. In case the driver steering input ? is deemed unreliable a replacement reference yaw rate {dot over (?)}refroad is set based on the acquired road shape and a replacement difference yaw rate ?{dot over (?)}road is set whereupon stabilizing braking intervention is performed based on the replacement difference yaw rate ?{dot over (?)}road.

  • Patent number: 8537929
Abstract: Methods and systems for coding multicast information signals are disclosed. Signal transformations imposed by communication links with a plurality of receivers that are grouped into subsets of receivers can be determined. In addition, a coding design can be generated by employing dimension parameters that are related to achievable capacity rates of the subsets of receivers and are determined by constraining a sum of the dimension parameters to be less than or equal to a dimension of a union of subspaces of signal values that are receivable by the receivers. Output signals can be generated by applying the coding design to multicast information to compensate for the signal transformations. Further, the output signals can be transmitted to the plurality of receivers.

  • Publication number: 20130230088
Abstract: Performance in multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) antenna systems may be enhanced by configuring beams in a direction that reduces coupling between the beams. A decoupling metric may be calculated based on signal strengths received through the beams when an antenna system is pointed in different directions. The decoupling metric may be used to select a particular direction for operation of the antenna system. The decoupling metric may be combined with the signal strengths from each beam to select a direction for the antenna. An interface provides information to a user during positioning of the antenna to allow the user to select a direction for placement of the antenna that reduces coupling between beams in the MIMO antenna system.

  • Patent number: 8504098
Abstract: A quantized multi-rank beamforming scheme for multiple-antenna systems such as a multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) wireless downlink. User equipment (UE) estimates downlink channel and transmit power and determines rank and power allocations. A quantized beamforming matrix is then determined by the UE using successive beamforming. The UE also determines channel quality indices (CQI) which it feeds-back to the wireless downlink base station along with the index of the quantized beamforming matrix. The base station uses the CQI information to select a UE for scheduling of downlink transmission and the quantized beamforming matrix index received from the selected UE to beamform the downlink transmission to the UE. Base station overhead and is minimized while providing near-optimal performance given the constraints of a limited feed-back channel and computational complexity of the UE.

  • Patent number: 8488580
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are disclosed for applying successive multi-rank beamforming strategies (e.g., successive precoding strategies) for the design of precoders over a set of parallel channels. Successive beamforming is applied to a narrow band channel model and is also applied for finer quantization of a single beamforming vector (e.g., recursive beamforming). A first embodiment provides the optimal approach with high complexity. An alternative embodiment provides successive beamforming for near optimal precoding selection with medium complexity. A low complexity method for precoder selection is also provided wherein a channel representative matrix for the set of parallel channels is determined and successive beamforming on the calculated channel representative is applied.
