  • Patent number: 9894008
Abstract: This disclosure is directed generally to systems and methods for implementation of Jumbo frames in an existing network stack. In some embodiments, a connection handler of a device receives data having a size greater than an Ethernet frame size. That data includes header data and payload data. The device partitions the data into segments including a first segment and a second segment. The first segment includes the header data and a first portion of the payload data, while the second segment includes a second portion of the payload data. The device stores the first and second segments in first and second network buffers, respectively, of a pool of network buffers. The device forms a packet chain of the first and second network buffers having a size greater than the Ethernet frame size. The device transmits the packet chain via a network connection.

  • Patent number: 9887937
Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for allocating shared resources to nodes in a distributed computing network system. Nodes request a lock for each instance of a computing resource (e.g., a virtual IP address associated with a service provided by the distributed computing network system) from a distributed lock manager. The distributed lock manager maintains a queue of requests for each instance of the shared resource. Upon receiving a lock from the distributed lock manager, the receiving node performs a fairness allocation protocol to determine whether to accept the lock. If so determined, the shared computing resources associated with the lock is configured.

  • Publication number: 20180032211
Abstract: Acoustic touch detection (touch sensing) system architectures and methods can be used to detect an object touching a surface. Position of an object touching a surface can be determined using time-of-flight (TOF) bounding box techniques, or acoustic image reconstruction techniques, for example. Acoustic touch sensing can utilize transducers, such as piezoelectric transducers, to transmit ultrasonic waves along a surface and/or through the thickness of an electronic device. Location of the object can be determined, for example, based on the amount of time elapsing between the transmission of the wave and the detection of the reflected wave. An object in contact with the surface can interact with the transmitted wave causing attenuation, redirection and/or reflection of at least a portion of the transmitted wave. Portions of the transmitted wave energy after interaction with the object can be measured to determine the touch location of the object on the surface of the device.

  • Patent number: 9882241
Abstract: A novel electrode for a battery is provided. The electrode may contain active material nanoparticles embedded in a solid polymer electrolyte. The electrolyte can also act as a binder for the nanoparticles. A plurality of voids is dispersed throughout the solid polymer electrolyte. The electrode may also contain electronically conductive carbon particles. Upon charging or discharging of the cell, the nanoparticles expand as they take up active material ions. The solid polymer electrolyte can deform reversibly in response to the expansion of the nanoparticles and transfer the volume expansion to the voids.

  • Patent number: 9870368
Abstract: Embodiments described herein provide techniques for maintaining consistency in a distributed system (e.g., a distributed secondary storage system). According to one embodiment of the present disclosure, a first set of file system objects included in performing the requested file system operation is identified in response to a request to perform a file system operation. An update intent corresponding to the requested file system operation is inserted into an inode associated with each identified file system object. Each file system object corresponding to the inode is modified as specified by the update intent in that inode. After modifying the file system object corresponding to the inode, the update intent is removed from that inode.

  • Publication number: 20180013696
Abstract: Resource provider specifications, characterizing computing resources of computing resource providers, are received. The reachability of each IP address included in the received specification is determined. An agent is deployed that is operable to determine the value of each of a set of metrics in the environment of the host at which the agent is deployed. The agent determines the value of each metric of the set of metrics in the environment of the relevant host, and communicates the determined values to one or more computing devices that validate whether the resources characterized by the communicated values are sufficient to provide the performance characterized by the received specification and that each ISP router complies with a predetermined policy. For each computing resource provider validated and determined to comprise an ISP router compliant with policy, the specified computing resources are added to a pool of resources for cloud computing.

  • Patent number: 9865261
Abstract: As provided herein, an audio signal (e.g., a user's spoken statement “check email”) may be received from the user of a client device accessing a webpage (e.g., a webmail webpage) utilizing a browser. The webpage may be parsed, analyzed, and/or mapped to identify one or more elements on the webpage (e.g., a send/receive email user interface element). The audio signal may be evaluated relative to the one or more elements on the webpage (e.g., such as by a dictionary comprising one or more audio signals paired to one or more audio commands) to identify an audio command. The audio command may be transformed into a text command (e.g., a script corresponding to a script action that invokes the send/receive email user interface element). • Publication number: 20180006473
Abstract: A system and method to identify whether a removable battery pack inserted into a battery-powered device is an authorized battery pack for the device. Battery-powered devices may include a battery-powered drill, saw, flashlight or other type of device. The battery-powered device may send an authentication query to the battery pack. If the battery-powered device does not receive a valid reply from the battery pack, the battery-powered device may verify that the battery-powered device is still within a phase-out period that allows the battery-powered device to use a battery pack with an invalid authentication. If the phase-out period has expired, the battery-powered device may disable the use of the battery pack with an invalid authentication. If the phase-out period is still running, the battery-powered device may allow the use of the battery pack with an invalid authentication, but only for a limited number of battery pack recharge cycles.
