    Abstract: There is provided an apparatus and a method determining a data arrangement that guarantees seamless reproduction even in a case of occurrence of a jump in a browsable slide show. An allowable jump range between an image data clip and an audio data clip required for data reading in the browsable slide show in which a consecutive reproduction processing of a still image and an audio reproduction processing are performed in parallel is determined so as to determine arrangement conditions of data to be stored in an information recording medium on the basis of the determined allowable jump range. This configuration enables the browsable slide show to be carried out as a seamless reproduction processing without any data discontinuity. Furthermore, it becomes possible to provide a plurality of combinations of readout rates of the audio data and image data.

Button image data, corresponding sound data as an effect sound, and control commands for the sound data and image data are multiplexed with a stream and recorded on the disc. A scenario reproduced from the disc is stored in a buffer 104. The image data and sound data are stored in a buffer 105. Image data is read from the buffer 105 in accordance with a scenario and expanded to a graphics plane 133. In addition, corresponding sound data is read from the buffer 105 and reproduced by a sound player 106D. When a button image is varied in accordance with a state change of the button, an effect sound is reproduced. As a result, a more effective user interface is accomplished.

In determining the encryption mode, a cryptographic key for each sector is specified on the basis of an auxiliary file including determination information indicating whether each sector is data of a segment portion or data of a non-segment portion and identification information for identifying a segment and a variation associated with the sector if the sector is found to be the data of a segment portion. In generating the encrypted data for the segment portion or for the non-segment portion, the encrypted data is generated by using the specified cryptographic key.

    Abstract: An information processing apparatus, an information processing method, a program storage medium, and a program for permitting the selection of a recording method maximizes the number of consecutive angle change units with priority given to an AV stream rate. A target AV stream rate is acquired, a jump distance is selected, and a jump time corresponding to the selected distance is acquired. A minimum angle change time is calculated from the jump time and a data read rate. The size of a minimum angle change unit is determined from the minimum angle change time and the AV stream rate. The number of minimum angle change units within the jump distance is calculated. The number of recordable angles is checked. The method is selected whereby the largest number of data items can be recorded consecutively on condition that the necessary number of angles is provided. This invention can be applied to recording/reproducing apparatuses.

    Abstract: A block key to encrypt block data is generated using an ATS (arrival time stamp) appended to each of TS (transport stream) packets included in a transport stream correspondingly to the arrival time of the TS packet. The ATS is a random data depending upon an arrival time, and so a block-unique key can be generated, which enhances the protection against data cryptanalysis. A block key is generated from a combination of an ATS with a key unique to a device, recording medium or the like such as a master key, disc-unique key, title-unique key or the like. Since an ATS is used to generate a block key, any area for storage of an encryption key for each block may not be provided in a recording medium.

In a case where the DVR_protect_flag is 1, the reproduction is allowed only when a correct code number is inputted. In a case where the DVR_protect_flag and the playback_control_flag are both 1, input of the code number for the playback_control_flag is omitted when the correct code number has already been inputted for the DVR_protect_flag.
