  • Patent number: 5978514
Abstract: An image data coding system comprises a screen-area determining means for determining the area of a screen reproduced on the basis of an input image data; a code-amount assigning control means for controlling regions to which data on the screen are to be assigned and the code amount assigned to each of the regions, on the basis of the results determined on the area of the reproduced screen; and a coding means for coding the image data signal inputted in accordance with the code amount assigned to each of the regions. In an image data coding and/or decoding system, a coding system performs the two-dimensional orthogonal transform of picture signals of all the pixels with respect to inside blocks and of only picture signals of pixels contained in a content with respect to edge blocks, in accordance with a map signal indicative of the position and shape of the content, and it codes the map signal.

  • Patent number: 5947775
Abstract: A retainer that is arranged selectively in a temporarily retained condition or in a regularly retained condition while slidably fitted into a housing main body in a vertical direction orthogonal to a connector fitting direction. The retainer, blocks the sliding of a terminal protecting cover in an opening direction under the temporarily retained condition, and is set to an inner position from an outer surface of the housing main body. Further, the retainer is inserted into the housing main body deeper under the regularly retained condition than under the temporarily retained condition so as to be set to such a position as to allow the cover to slide in the opening direction.

  • Patent number: 5883678
Abstract: A video encoding apparatus is provided with a resolution converting section, an encoding section, and a transmitting section. The resolution converting section enlarges or reduces a binary picture which represents the shape of an object. The encoding section encodes a binary picture reduced by the resolution converting section. The reduction ratio used by the resolution converting section is encoded, and the transmitting section transmits this encoded reduction ratio along with encoded data on the binary picture. The amount of encoded data produced from the encoding section is controlled by changing the enlargement/reduction ratio used by the resolution converting section.

  • Patent number: 5788536
Abstract: A connector in which the connecting terminal is prevented from shifting or playing, and the male and female terminals are positively engaged with each other. The connector comprises a plurality of elongated protrusions 20 formed on the walls of a terminal accommodating chamber 12 in such a manner that they extend in the direction of insertion of a female terminal 13. The female terminal includes a wire clamping section 18 comprising a conductor clamping portion 28 and a cover clamping portion 29. A locking protrusion 21 formed on the bottom of the cover clamping portion 29 is engaged with a locking groove 22 formed in the connector housing 11. Furthermore, the height of the cover clamping portion 29 is made substantially equal to the terminal accommodating chamber 12. Hence, both the position of the front end portion of the female terminal 13 and the position of the wire clamping section 18, which is the rear end portion of the terminal, are positively regulated.

  • Patent number: 5760592
Abstract: A connector housing (22) before insertion of a terminal lug thereinto is set in an inspection chamber (7) on a connector inspection device (A), so that a movable pin (9) of an inspection pin (8) is located inside a front end portion of the terminal-accommodating chamber in the connector housing. With the terminal lug thereafter inserted into the accommodating chamber, the movable pin is moved back against a spring (11) so that, when the terminal lug has been fully inserted, the movable pin comes into contact with a stationary pin to energize an inspection electric circuit (18). Thus, the full insertion of the terminal lug (C) can be known. Hold on the terminal lug is then released to allow the terminal lug to retract by a distance corresponding to a clearance (D) present between an edge of a locking portion (28) of the terminal lug and a locking projection (24a) of a resilient locking piece (24), so that the movable pin is now separated from the stationary pin to shut off the inspection electric circuit.

  • Patent number: 5754231
Abstract: A method for allocating bits to be used to compression code digital data signals representing a group of pictures in a motion video sequence. The pictures within each group of pictures to be coded are identified as being one of a plurality of different picture types. The total number of bits to be used in compression coding the group of pictures is determined based on a fixed target bit-rate. The number of bits for use in compression coding a picture in said group of pictures is allocated from said total number of bits using a number of pictures in each of the plurality of picture types in order to produce an allocation of bits which meet the fixed target bit-rate.

  • Patent number: 5751822
Abstract: An ambient noise suppression electrical circuit to be used with a voice communication terminal comprising a gain control amplifier, whose input is a microphone, and a peak-hold circuit that includes a band-pass amplifier that amplifies a specified frequency range of the output signals of the microphone, a peak detection circuit that produces signals in proportion to the peak level of the output signals of the band-pass amplifier, and a holding circuit that controls reduction of output signals of the peak detection circuit for a specified period of time. The output signal from the peak-hold circuit controls the gain of the gain control amplifier. When a microphone is located far from a mouth and is used under high ambient noise, the present invention makes it possible for the microphone to perform as if it is a microphone which is located in a quality telephone handset that cuts off ambient noise.
