  • Publication number: 20010021965
Abstract: A recording apparatus for facilitating content erasure operations involving content recorded on a recording medium. Each piece of content recorded on the recording medium may be examined to determine whether it is rerecordable or non-rerecordable. When content erasure is requested, erasure processing may be controlled in accordance with the result of the determination. For example, original content based on data captured by a microphone or a camera (namely, non-rerecordable content) may not be erased (without specific approval by the user). Conversely, rerecordable content copied from another recording medium such as a CD may be erased.

  • Patent number: 6097557
Abstract: A transfer protocol in a transfer system adapted for transferring compressed audio signals in a compressed form for recording on a recording medium is disclosed. The management data for managing compressed audio signals recorded on the recording medium are generated responsive to the information sent from the server in order to generate the management data without exchanging the management data between the server and the client. A transfer system in which, if data are previously recorded on the recording medium loaded on the client side, the management data can be edited for additionally recording data on the recording medium without modifying the compressed audio data and management data already recorded on the recording medium, is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5951710
Abstract: Double error correction is attempted on the data for which error detection is once performed on compressed data both in the error detecting circuit and in the error correcting circuit after it is read out in sectors from the target disc medium and the reliability of the data recorded on the disc medium is judged according to the pointer C2PO indicating that the error cannot be corrected even with the double correction processing, whereby a disc playback apparatus can be provided which is able to judge the state of data errors without executing the expanding processing of the compressed data.

  • Patent number: 5886957
Abstract: A data storage apparatus excelling in portability by enabling data to be transferred between a detachable first recording medium having a relatively small capacity and an undetachable second recording medium having a large capacity. In particular, as a memory card using no special card is employed as first recording medium, and there is no need to specially provide a head elevating mechanism or a medium loading mechanism for the second recording medium, the size and thickness of the apparatus can be reduced.

  • Patent number: 5848032
Abstract: A disc recording apparatus which uses a disc recorded with address data beforehand and writes the TOC (information about recorded data) in a predetermined area on the disc. When a predetermined key is operated during recording, an address on the disc corresponding to an operation point of the key is written to the predetermined area as the TOC, generating positional information for data retrieval which substantially has no offset from a marker point on the disc. In reproduction, the TOC is read before starting reproduction, so that a desired marker point can be detected promptly based on the positional information of the TOC data.

  • Patent number: 5768236
Abstract: A reproducing apparatus for a recording medium such as an optical disk, includes a head, a memory, and a controller. The head is relatively moved with respect to the recording medium so as to read audio data recorded on the recording medium. The memory temporarily stores the audio data read from the recording medium. The controller controls to write the audio data into the memory and to read the audio data stored in the memory. The controller controls to write the audio data into the memory and to read the audio data therefrom in such a manner that a writing speed of the audio data read by the head becomes higher than a reading speed of the audio data stored in the memory. When a highspeed reproducing operation condition is set, the controller intermittently reads the data from a position separated from a preselected address by using the audio data previously stored in the memory, so that a highspeed reproducing operation process is executed.

  • Patent number: 5633841
Abstract: Record position information is recorded in a lead-in area disposed on an innermost peripheral side of a disc. When a record commanding means for commanding a start of recording operation is operated while a reproducing operation of a reproducing means is being stopped, a recording head is moved to a blank area on the disc which is detected on the basis of the record position information recorded in the lead-in area and input data is recorded in the blank area. When the record commanding means for commanding a start of recording operation is operated while the reproducing operation of the reproducing means is being paused, the recording head is moved to a position of a signal which has been outputted when the recording operation has been paused and the input data is recorded from this position.

  • Patent number: 5553055
Abstract: A method for fast playback of a disc in a cue or review mode to reproduce therefrom audio data compressed and recorded burstly by a predetermined amount as a unit. The method comprises predetermining a unitary block of data which consists of n times (where n is a positive integer) the decodable minimum unitary amount of the compressed data; sequentially extracting, out of the informationally continuous data of plural programs on the disc, the data of the unitary block at an interval of m unitary blocks (where m is a positive integer) in the forward or reverse direction of the continuity of the data; and reproducing the sound from the extracted data. By repeating such playback operation, the audio data of the plural programs can be reproduced in the cue or review mode at a speed higher than the normal playback speed.

  • Patent number: 5504728
Abstract: A method of performing data compression of audio data and sequentially recording the data on a disk in units of the data, each unit being formed of a predetermined amount of the data. In the method, there is provided a detector for detecting a breakpoint of the audio data. The audio data is continuously recorded by joining, even at the breakpoint, the data preceding and subsequent to the breakpoint, thereby forming the unit data. A piece of information indicating the position of the breakpoint is recorded on the disk. When an operation to suspend or stop the recording operation has been made, the last data immediately before the suspended or stopped point is included in the unit data and recorded as a portion of the unit data. The following data is recorded started from new unit data. When the last recorded data is short of a unit data amount, the remaining portion of the unit data amount is filled with data of a special pattern.
