  • Publication number: 20050053540
Abstract: Highly pure and reactive amorphous silicon metal particles are prepared in an organic solvent by reducing a halosilane, organohalosilane, or salt thereof with a metal reducing agent. When the halogen is other than fluorine, and apolar organic solvent is employed. Numerous silicon-containing reactant sources may be used, and the process may be used thusly to purify silicon, or to prepare an amorphous silicon intermediate which can react with organohalogen compounds at low temperatures to produce organosilicon compounds such as methylhalosilanes.
