Abstract: A PSI converter includes: a protocol data extractor, a protocol data converter, a protocol data inserter, and a system controller. The protocol data extractor is configured for demultiplexing a terrestrial broadcasting TS or a satellite broadcasting TS, and extracting audio/video data and PSIP/PSI data or audio/video data and SI/PSI data from the terrestrial broadcasting TS or the satellite broadcasting TS, respectively. The protocol data converter is configured for converting the PSIP/PSI data or the SI/PSI data into PSIP/PSI data of a corresponding digital cable television broadcasting standard. The protocol data inserter is configured for inserting the digital cable television broadcasting standard PSIP/PSI data into the audio/video data extracted by the protocol data extractor though TS multiplexing, and generating a digital cable broadcasting TS.

Abstract: A method for subscribing a service and distributing encryption key based on public-key encryption algorithm in a digital CATV system are disclosed. In accordance with an aspect of the present invention, there is provided a method including the steps of: a) generating a charged service application message; b) generating a session connection request message, signing based on a digital signature scheme with appendix on the session connection request message and transmitting to the head-end; c) generating a symmetric-based session key, signing a digital signature on the key, encrypting based on a public-key of the subscriber, transmitting the session key to the subscriber; decrypting the session key message, verifying the digital signature, extracting the session key from the session key message and storing at a Condition Access Module; and d) signing a digital signature on the charged service request message, encrypting using the extracted session key and transmitting to the head-end.

Abstract: Provided is a QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) symbol mapping method and apparatus for downstream transmission of a cable modem. The method includes the steps of: determining phase information on the basis of predetermined relations between two bits representing set partitioning information and two LSBs (Least Significant Bits) of bits representing amplitude information, among bits input for QAM symbol mapping; separating I and Q signals of a first quadrant from the bits representing the amplitude information; and mapping the I and Q signals of the first quadrant to actual positions on the basis of the determined phase information.

Abstract: A method where a Downloadable Conditional Access System Provisioning Server (DPS) detects a duplicated secure micro is provided. A method of detecting a duplicated secure micro, the method including: generating authentication time difference information associated with a value of a difference between a time when a host is finally authenticated in a first address and a time when the host is authenticated in a second address; comparing the authentication time difference information with a first reference value and a second reference value, the second reference value being less than the first reference value; and determining whether the secure micro is duplicated based on a result of the comparing.

Abstract: A Data Over Cable Service Interface Specifications (DOCSIS) frame reassembling apparatus and method in a cable modem including a plurality of receiving channels is provided. A method of controlling reassembling of a Media Access Control (MAC) frame, the method including: receiving a signal and outputting a packet signal through demodulation and error correction; receiving the outputted signal and controlling a specific compression format standard header and a point field; receiving packet data and a buffer write enable signal, and writing data in a MAC frame reassembling buffer; storing the data written in the MAC frame reassembling buffer; and reading the stored data from the MAC frame reassembling buffer in response to a received buffer read enable signal and storing the read data in a MAC frame buffer.

Abstract: A cable modem termination system receives a bandwidth request message, and collects information on the basis of the bandwidth request message. Then, time bandwidth size information is generated on the basis of the bandwidth request message and the collected information, and a bandwidth allocation message is generated on the basis of the collected information and the time bandwidth size information. Accordingly, a cable modem termination system can effectively receive data transmitted from a cable modem.

Abstract: An apparatus and method of building an Internet Protocol (IP)-based video service system in a Hybrid Fiber Coax (HFC) network is provided. An apparatus for building an IP-based video service providing system, the apparatus including: an IP decapsulation unit to delete a header in a video signal in a packet form transmitted by an IP-based video server, and to subsequently transmit the video signal to a headend; the headend to encapsulate the video signal received by the IP decapsulation unit into a Media Access Control (MAC) header, and to transmit the encapsulated video signal in the packet form; and an IP protocol encapsulation unit to perform IP encapsulation of the video signal received from the headend.

A data transmitting method of the broadcast service information providing apparatus includes receiving IPTV broadcast contents, configuring broadcast service information on the IPTV broadcast contents, assigning a virtual channel to the broadcast service information; and transmitting, to a terminal, the broadcast service information to which the virtual channel is assigned. Abstract: An automatic roaming apparatus and method of a terminal in a digital cable broadcasting network is provided. The method includes: performing device authentication of the terminal when terminal authentication is requested by the terminal; verifying whether roaming authentication of the terminal having requested the terminal authentication is required; requesting subscriber authentication for a Provisioning Server (PS) in a home domain and receiving the subscriber authentication when the terminal exists in the home domain, when the roaming authentication of the terminal is verified as being required; transmitting a result of the device authentication and the subscriber authentication as a response to the terminal; and instructing an Integrated Personalization Server (IPS) to download a Conditional Access (CA) application to the terminal.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for a switch operation of a downstream terminal platform for Internet Protocol (IP) data transmission using a legacy transmission system in a Hybrid Fiber Coax (HFC) network is provided. The downstream terminal platform includes: a Radio Frequency (RF) transmitter to distribute and combine a signal transceived by an HFC network; a broadband downstream receiver to process a broadband signal received by the RF transmitter; a cable modem (CM) to process data received or transmitted by the RF transmitter; an IP layer switch to transmit data to a corresponding Customer Premises Equipment (CPE), the data being received from the broadband downstream receiver to the CPE, or to enable user data received from the CPE to be transmitted to a headend using the CM; and a subscriber controller to control the downstream terminal platform.

Abstract: Disclosed is a mutual authentication method and apparatus in a CAS including a headend system and DCAS host. In particular, example embodiments relate to a mutual authentication method and apparatus in DCAS, wherein the mutual authentication is performed between an authentication server of the headend system and an SM of a DCAS host, and then CAS software is downloaded to the SM. According to the example embodiments, there is provided a mutual authentication protocol between the authentication server of the headend and the SM of the DCAS host in a cable network, and also provided a mutual authentication method and apparatus in the DCAS where a substantial authentication based on a hardware, such as a smart card or a cable card, is not needed.

Abstract: Provided is a digital cable system and method for protecting a secure micro (SM) client, and more particularly, a digital cable system and method for protecting an SM program that can improve the security of an SM program through authentication of a host and integrity verification of the SM program. A method of protecting an SM program includes: receiving host authentication information associated with a host from a trusted authority; verifying validity of the secure micro program based on the host authentication information; and sending, to an authentication proxy, a HostStateInformation message that includes host state information associated with validity verification information of the SM program.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for management and transmission of a classified conditional access application to provide Downloadable Conditional Access System (DCAS) service according to disclosed embodiments is an effective managing method according to a type of a conditional access module in a software version in the DCAS.
